Taking the muffler off has been suggested so you can use the larger inner BMW system case from a RT. Here is what I did, buying a chrome tip from Napa auto parts store. You don't need the tip as our other bike hasn't been fitted with one, just looks a little better with it.

Re: My new 2002 BMW R1150R
Greetings to all.
I hope everything is going well this days for all of you.
Im looking for a good luggage option (Side hard cases) for mi R1150R.
Is there any option that can take advantage of the original cargo racks that comes with the 1150?
Best regards.

You mean these black grips for the pillion / cargo racks?
As far as I know, only original BMW hard cases will fit.
And that piece of plastic which looks like a cargo rack for a top case. No. It's not strong enough. It's form over function.
Some forum members have built some wonderful replacement topcase racks, others (like me) have bought a topcase rack (from Givi).

I have the side rack holders on my bike and have looked for a while for some bmw hard cases but have always been put off by the cost of new ones and used ones seem scarce. There seem to be some imported non-bmw hard bags on eBay but I don't know about the quality of these. My bike came with a set of fabric cortech side bags that are easy to put on and off, hold a fair amount and since I don't do any real 'trips' on the bike have proven sufficient for me until a used BMW set come along.
Re: My new 2002 BMW R1150R
I only use my BMW hard bags on long trips. I use BMW tail bags, large (extended trips) and small (daily riding) and they work excellent for my usage.

Most modifications are a matter of taste. There's one that I see as a necessity: If it already hasn't been done, you should change the stock fuel hose connectors. They're what you disconnect to remove the tank. The originals are cheaply made and have been known to fail; on my bike they broke at speed and sprayed the engine with gas. You'll need an after market fuel coupling kit. It's metal and much better quality than stock. An added benefit: It'll be impossible to cross-connect the hoses. I think the kit goes for around $50.

Re: My new 2002 BMW R1150R
Although I haven't posted for a very long time, I learned many good tech tips for my 2003 R upon buying it used. One of the first things I did was the get rid of the cable ties around the steering head area. Many years later, I noticed the black plastic sheathing that protects the wires had totally crumbled, and fell off in chunks. Just finished repairing that with tape and some of the type of mesh nylon sheathing that is split for easy installation. I now have the bare minimun amount of cable ties keeping the various wire runs in place, and I don't cinch them down very tight. A minimal amount of movement allowed.

Re: My new 2002 BMW R1150R
Im just looking for a Side option, no need for a top case.
I trying to find options, If not the original, then something different, I don't mind to replace the mounts for a different brand, perhaps GIVI?
Thanks for the replies, I will keep searching then
