Boxerboy just emailed me this bike pic...it has a 1982 R65 tank but the new hex head engine....looks good to me..

Well, I'll be damned...

DJ, you're not gonna' believe this, but not only is that a 1982 R65 fuel tank and a new Beemer "Hexhead" engine...

But the bike has 2004 or 2005 Yamaha FJR-1300 front forks, brakes, and front wheel...

Don't know why, but that strikes me as weirdly ironic at this point in time.

Trick looking sled, though. Simple, clean, and certainly lightweight. Has what looks to be an R-1150-R swingarm and rear end, but a frame that remarkably resembles the Norton "Featherbed" design. Has a large rear license plate so it must be somewhere in Europe...

Any more info on it?

I like it a lot, it would be nice if BMW could market a simular machine.

From the picture I would say an airfield from the plane tail in the background and the hardstanding. In the far background I see pylones like the ones I grew up with in South East England. But of course they have them in lots of places. The frame is intresting and I'm guessing early BMW.

Now THAT is a little cracker! Certainly an early, twin shock, BMW frame (which was based on the "featherbed") that's been converted to monoshock. Wonder where he works? My bet would be the service dept of a Dealer (or even Importer) where he has access to the Warranty/Parts bins Simon

Frame looks R100 to me, modified..
Love the centre stand.

Square-tracker maybe? Definately not a ratbike though. It's way to clean.

Bob, in the Brit & Euro rally & show circuit we have a class called "Modified" for bikes like this.
It's always the most interesting class to me...and the one my old Norton has done well in.
You see some really cool iron in that class.
I'd have real hard time applying "Rat" to this little gem.

Very nice, lightweight hexhead. A "breakers" Special I think is what they'd call it. It's been well done. The gizmo on the front belt cover would be?
I bet this little 1200 will just zip right along. BMW should copy it for the R1200R. Simple, quick, BMW.

It sure is a "bare bones" bike. It's all engine and not much else. With its light weight, it might be a real mover.
