BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

The horn on my 02 r1150r works fine, however it has that 1994 Toyota Corolla sound-tinny, low db's and sounds more like the timer on my toaster.

A new Stebel (or the like ) upgraded db horn is typically over $100.
While I've seen tons of replacement horns on eBay, etc I'm not sure what the comparability would be. I assume I only need a 12v 6 amp (or less) unit. I've also seen used horns pulled from othe BMW models in the 02-06 years that look like a good fit. This would be my choice if I could find out if they are louder.

Qestions are:
Are there any other years of BMW horns that are comptable with my bike that were louder?

Besides dropping over $100+ on a new replacement upgrade, other options?

Having owned a K1100LT before I bought the R1150R I know that the K1100LT has much louder 2-tone FIAMM horns, so I replaced the R1150R bleeper with the K1100LT horns, yes horns. You need a pair. When I say louder, they are much LOUDER!
They were also used on K75RT, K100RT and the like, maybe beemerboneyard?

R1150R has a Looney Tunes Roadrunner "meep meep".

They formentioned FIAMM horns on the K1100LT and K1200LT are almost Stebel level loud. Whenever you decide to buy them, point the horns downward or sideways but NOT backwards to keep the water and dust out. You will not like sitting almost on top of those horns. They scare the living daylights out of yourself everytime you use them. I know, happened to me

I pulled a horn off my VW Rabbit Diesel. You could use a horn off any car, they are all 12v. Mine sounds like a semi and people get out of my way when they hear it.

Not being an electrical expert, the amps or other specifics of each horn do not matter? As long as it's 12 volts thats all?

The current draw of a couple of 12V Fiamm horns is just about bearable by the protecting Horn Fuse on the bike. As long as you don't keep your thumb on the button for a long time to chastise an errant cager who's just annoyed you.

Any more juice flowing than that - the dreaded Amps - and you're likely to blow the fuse or in extreme cases set the actual wire feed on fire - which I did once - spectacular...

Which means you'll then need a separate relay-controlled feed. A relay takes the weight of the heavy current draw taken by an extremely loud pair of horns, so that the horn button reverts to being a simple low-draw switch and so the danger of overload vanishes. But you have to know how to wire it up.

The box that my Chinese / Russian Fiamms came in had a diagram showing the wiring needed. But I must admit I didn't use it - I just run the pair of horns from the original wiring to the single OEM RoadRunner beeper. No probs so far - after 5 years.
