magura clutch blood

Post by DAM650 »

Can I get your opinion concerning flushing the clutch.

Should I use blood, or DOT4?

DOT4
Save the blood to lube your splines.

spent some time (too much) reading about this topic.

it seems the bike came from the factory with some blue mineral base lube.

when i changed mine it was pretty clean, way cleaner than the brake fluid.

so, still wondering if there is a good reason to use DOT4 vs. buying a mineral based clutch fluid?

For peace of mind I'd always go for DOT4 in the clutch hydraulics.
Although as you say, when I went on my memorable factory tour trip to Berlin Spandau a couple of years ago, I did notice that the line assemblers fired in the brake and clutch fluids backwards up towards the reservoirs on the bars. And the liquid for the clutch was indeed blue. I'm sure the reason was because that particular DOT4 fluid supplier probably cost a penny less per ten liters than the stuff they'd used beforehand. Knowing how much vicious cost-cutting now goes on at the Motorrad factory.

Also, in the past I've seen off-the-shelf DOT4 hydraulic fluid coloured red, too.
