Exhaust Studs.

Hi All, I need to attempt to drill out several broken exhaust studs and am hoping to find out** how deep I can safely drill into the head before I do any damage ** ?another problem I have is that someone has already had a very bad go at doing this before and are way of centre so I'm hoping to get the position back by means of a helicoil insert. I know that the best option would be to remove the heads and set them up on a machine but due to the work involved to remove the heads and the price of the head gaskets I'm pretty confident that its a job that can be done it situ.

Best suggestion, would be get new studs and measure them .

Another suggestion, if the studs broke because they are seized in the head, DO NOT use an E-Z out or other type extractor, they are brittle and will snap off, compounding your problem .

Best way to go about this it to remove the heads and get them machined out properly.

Thanks AZBMWRIDER I had the same thought so I've just ordered a set.
