Hi, I live in Norway and just sold my harley and got suggestion to buy 2004 bmw r1150r. Got the pictures of the bike and one picture gives me worries. There are 3 hoses hanging out by the swingarm. I asked the seller what is this and he said it was always there and have no effect on motorbike. My questions does anybody knows what is the purpose of these hoses ? This is a link with picutres of the bike. Number 6 picture you can see the hoses hanging http://www.finn.no/75809574

There vent/drain hoses....my Rockster only has 2....tank vent and a drain for the filler cap I think. Not sure what the 3rd one is.....possibly battery?
I wouldn't worry about them!

Sharp bike! My '04 is identical, same color. Looks like tank vent lines and could possibly be lines that once went to a charcoal canister? Maybe the canister is not included on bikes in Europe, not sure. My tank vent lines come down inside the swingarm (or other side of same).

they almost have to be the lines from the removed charcoal canister. The canister can be removed (I had to remove mine to be able to mount SW-Motech racks and bags. However, the one line that goes from the canister to a "Y" and then to the throttle bodies must be plugged or capped. The other two can be routed to the same location as the battery and gas tank vent lines.

Just checked my UK bike. I have 4 hoses dangling. They are clipped together in pairs. They dangle inboard of the rear brake pivot and are not so noticeable as yours. Our bikes do not have charcoal canisters.
I guess one may be to allow for any anti-freeze overflow.

Had a quick look at my Clymer manual, two of the tubes are from the fuel tank, and the other is the vent for the battery.
Cheers
