BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I recently acquired a 2002 R1150R, 29K miles in seemingly good condition. One thing I noticed right away is that the heated grips seem to always be on.
I didn't get an owners manual with the bike but if I recall correctly, flipping the switch "down" to show one dot would be low, down another click to show two dots would be high. Is that correct?

So I pulled the fuse for now until I can get this sorted out. My google fu turned up a post that seemed to indicate the switch could be bad.

Also, the PO had a 10A fuse in slot 7 and as far as I can tell it should be a 4A. Maybe another clue if the 4A was popping.

Yup, that's how they are operated. Would not want them on all the time in this UK heat wave of 16C ( 61F).

correct. It does sound like maybe the switch is shorting (or the short is happening somewhere else in the loom)

So a quick update and the final solution. Pulling the fuse didn't stop the grips from getting hot. How is this possible you ask? Well that was my question to so I headed back to the dealer. They were nice enough to give me a loaner while they sorted it out. They initially thought switch and replaced it with a new one, still hot all the time. They then tore into the wire harness and found a couple of melted wires under the tank. All fixed now!
