Hey all- probaby a simple Q but after my Beakster is warmed up and I'm just riding, if I jam on the throttle and take it to higher revs, I do hear a bit of "pinging." I always run 93 oct. Is this a need for valve adj.-throttle body or what?

Valve check (when cold) and TB balance (when hot) wouldn't hurt.

Also running some injector cleaner first probably wouldn't hurt.

I've heard good things about 'SeaFoam', but never used it. (never seen it here in the UK).

I actually run Seafoam in my autos and when I first bought the Beakster I'd put a bit in with each full tank. I'll go back to doing that and see what happens.

The R1150R manual calls for 89 Octane. Any time I put another octane in I get ping, surge, etc.
Try a few tanks of good quality 89 Octane see if that helps.
Seafoam every other month or so is good too.

I have found one product that makes my 42k 2004 R1150R run as well as they day I bought it.

Liquid Performance Ethanol Equalizer.

One bottle treats 40 gallons of gas. A half ounce every fill up.
The smoothness of the roll on power from 4k to 7k is amazing.
As my bike got older, it got more finicky, this stuff brings it right back.
Outside of finding ethanol free gas, this stuff is great.

If that doesn't do it, I suggest you check the timing. Sounds like you may be running a little advanced.

Interesting. Never heard of it - I'll check it out. What kind of miles did you consider older? I have "only" 16,300 on my beakster. Thx.

If this just started happening or if it used to not ping, I think it is urgent that you check your fuel system. My bike started doing that and after a couple months a leaking fuel hose inside my tank ruptured while in the highway, bring my trip to a halt.

You can check it by measuring the volume of fuel returned back to the tank while the bike is idling. No need to measure fuel pressure. Here is a link: http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/u ... Post838585

Thanks Roger. It has happened occasionally for a while. I don't step hard on the throttle much so I think it may be more of gas cleansing issue. I'll try that first and very much appreciate your info for the next step if needed.
