I just bought a 2004 R1150R (silver) with 2400miles on the dial. I’m the 3rd owner. The history of the bike: 1st owner had it for 8 years, put 500 miles on it and left it sitting with ethanol fuel in it. 2nd owner bought it and had to put new fuel pump/filter in because the ethanol wrecked it. He also did an oil/filter change and rode it for 1900 miles in 2 years. Bike looks and runs great. I love it!

To establish a maintenance baseline I plan to:
- Change all the oils/filter including hydraulic…. Or shall I just wait for the scheduled 6000miles service?
- New tires. Original tires have plenty thread but are 10 years old.

Anything less obvious I should consider doing also?

Wow that bike isn't even broken in yet. Congrats on a great find.

Change the tires. At that age, I would not trust them no matter how good they looked.

Plenty of tire threads here. I just got Pilot roads after years on Metzler. Great tires.

There is no law against having a dealer mechanic do a 6k service now, to replace the final drive oil, and make sure the brakes are in good shape. Call it peace of mind service.

That is indeed a great find. Hard to imagine owning a bike for 8 yrs and only riding 500 miles. But regardless establishing a baseline is a good idea. If you're comfortable with a wrench in your hand then doing all the recommended service is easy and helps you get to know your bike better. There is plenty of help here if you run into questions. Plus you'll save quite a bit of money doing it yourself.

Give a yell if you find something you're not sure of. We'll try to help.

Definitely clip the wire ties under the headlight area as they are put on too tight and eventually will cause broken wires. There are a bunch of threads on this forum about this.

I neglected to mention........It'd be a good idea to flush out the old antifreeze/coolant in the tank side radiators and replace with new. Any good grade of antifreeze is generally OK but I prefer to go to my local BMW bike parts dept and get the BMW stuff. They'll know exactly what you need.

Thanks for mentioning that! But I’m waaaaaay ahead of you on that one. It was actually the first thing I did after I got the bike…. drained, flushed and replaced. Good thing I did because it was all murky and about a quart low. It’s a much overlooked and crucial maintenance item!

Bike has a factory all black engine and wish bone. Haven't seen that in any pictures except on the Rockster?

Very very nice! I see you also have the Pirate's Lair passenger backrest. That's great for the little ladies. I like the blacked out engine. My '04 is similar except the jugs are blacked out as well.

Yes, my wife likes the backrest. I still need to tweak the angle a little to make it fit better.

Want to get the rear hard cases and thinking of taking the stock exhaust of and putting on just a 6” exhaust tip so I can fit the full size left case. I’m worried about the increased noise?

Also plan to do:
- Auxiliary lights front and rear
- Nautilus horn (does anybody know if that fits ok where the stock ‘beeper’ is below the headlight?)
- Sargent seat (on order)
- K1200RS front fender (on order)
- Aluminum oil fil cap, hex. (on order)
- Maybe a peg lowering kit?
- Windscreen lip ?(X-Creen or Laminar? What’s on now is I think a medium Parabellum and it’s not tall enough. Any suggestions are welcome.)
- Luggage

It's probably the 'quietest' exhaust mod there is. The Catalyst does a large part of the sound reduction by it's baffling. Do it.

I wouldn't bother with the last part. I had one for a while on my Rockster and it actually made the bike 'look' dirtier as all the road wash was concentrated on the swingarm. (until it fell off at Hyde Park Corner and went under a cab!).

If the plastic quick disconnects on the fuel lines coming from the tank have not been changed yet, change them soon. The plastic ones will break; it is not a case of IF, it is a case of WHEN. The BeemerBoneyard has them for bike for about $75 to $80. http://www.beemerboneyard.com/cpcqkdiscon.html

Very pretty!! I see you have removed your stock muffler and installed the short pipe. Do you have bags - system cases? I am thinking about removing my muffler and putting on the short pipe, but I am concerned about exhaust heat on the bags. I wonder if you or anyone can speak to that concern.

One of the reasons I changed to a short pipe is because I want to fit full size system cases. I'm looking to buy a set. (ANYBODY HAVE A NICE SET FOR SALE? ) Heat/exhaust is not a problem. The short pipe is only 8" long and ends way forward and below the case. Also, it's turned down and away from the bike.

Great bike. I have a 03 which I have put several mods and farkles on. Looks like you have done a lot. I most like the Admore lights for my Givi top case and hyper-lights supplementing brakes. Anything you can do for yourself will save you tons avoiding the 'stealer".
