Slight oil leak....need help

Post by Buckster »

So I went to check the oil level 2 weeks ago and noticed that the sight glass was very dirty and that there was oil all over that part of the engine. I figured it was the sight glass leaking as I have read about the problem before. I ordered a new part and figured that I should clean up the oily residue in the area and take it for a test ride to make sure that was leaking. I haven't rode in 2 weeks prior. I rode for about an hour making several stops to check the area for oil leakage. I left the bike running when checking. I kept finding nothing for about the first 45 minutes. I finally found a slight leak.
It doesn't appear to be the sight glass window. It looks like it might be coming from this:

Don't know what it is called or what it is or why it might be leaking.
It's the thing to the upper right of the sight glass and just above the oil cooler line.

I will probably take the wire off and try tightening it ever so slightly. It's not a lot of oil seeping out. I kind of freaked out a little when I first saw the oil residue 2 weeks ago. I probably had not checked the oil for a month before that.
Thanks for any help or ideas!!

I doubt that tightening will do much, if anything. If it is coming from the oil sender usually they leak through it.

I had to replace mine awhile back. Not very expensive. 20 dollars or so.
