I have a 1996 r1100rt and love it...

A couple of questions please.

1. How do I use the communications on this bike to talk to my passenger? (it does not have the radio if that matters)

2. At what point should I shut down the engine while stopped behind a lengthy traffic delay? I've read that this bike is very sensitive in regards to leaving it running while just sitting.

Thanks,

A radio is irrelevant for communication and these bikes didn`t come with a communication system. You have to add your own.
As for point 2, I can`t help as I wouldn`t be stuck for long. That`s why I ride a bike :D

I see. :p

I drive a company vehicle for work and getting a bunch of tickets on my record is not an option. Any advise for this newb in regards to this? I will look up Texas law and ask around from some cops what they would do if saw me cruising the shoulder to get through traffic.

Is filtering illegal in the States? That is rediculous. You have my sympathy. Luckily the bike has a temperature gauge so at least you can monitor what is going on. I have heard of prolonged static running causing problems with the oil sight glass i.e. it has melted and dumped the oil on the tarmac. That is a bad thing! Normal running temp is 5 bars on the gauge. If it got up to seven bars for any length of time I would probably be a bit concerned, but probably better for somebody from somewhere hot to comment on this
