I'm looking for cases for my newly acquired '02 R1150R. There is a set of cases for an '04 R1150GS online, anyone know if they would fit?
Thanks'

If they are the black plastic BMW cases I believe they will. Be sure and get a key so you can re-key to fit your ignition. You can do that yourself or have it done at the dealer.

Yes, if they are the system cases, they will fit, but you need the rack supports on each side that the bags hang onto. If the bike does not have those, you will need those. And there are two types of those. The ones made to go on the GS and the swoopy doopy looking ones that are made to fit on the RR. Either set will work on the RR but the swoopy doopy ones look better.

soarsimon,
About the case locks . . . be sure to ask that the lock tumbler assemblies are removed from both cases by the seller and included with the cases!!! That way you (or someone else) can re-key the tumbler plates to work with only your bike's ignition key. The seller's ignition key is needed to remove the lock tumblers for re-keying, so he/she should do so before shipping them to you. There are instructions on-line on how to do that. I had the BMW quality System City cases on my previous BMW, an R1150R and I really liked them! They worked well, were lightweight, looked nice and were easy to lock/unlock/remove.

The City cases are actually the "normal" back bit of the system case, with a flatter lid attached.
You can get a pair of City lids and a pair of Touring lids, and, by replacing the rivets with wee nuts and bolts, change from the big to the neat cases in less than 5 minutes.
AFAIK, the 1150 cases are exactly the same, and interchangeable with those for the 1100s, too.

Thanks' very much for the info. My bike does indeed have the "swoopy" side rails installed so I should be good to go. I'm going to pull the trigger on the cases as I hope to do some road trips with my new (to me) ride. I'll have to do an intro post as soon as I get some pics. I love this bike!

1100 and 1150 cases are identical. The only thing you have to be aware of is that there are two types of left hand pannier, depending on whether your bike has a high or low exhaust. The R, RS and GS have the high exhaust so the left pannier has a recess for the silencer and is a bit smaller than that used for the RT.
Also, there are actually three different lids you can get, standard, City (smaller) and Global (bigger)
My 1150R actually has had a lower exhaust fitted to allow a bigger pannier on the left.

Or take off the muffler to add the bigger case! Lots of us have done that also.

Good evening.
Please look for original part numbers before you purchase. Mine uses the following;
46 54 2 317 623
46 54 7 660 300.
For the used ones, you need to check sealing status, hinge working and lock smoothness.

Just got my new (to me) system cases. They're from an '04 R1150GS but the snapped right onto my '02 1150r. These things are NICE! I can't wait to take a trip...

I know I am late for this, but....
I have system cases on my 05 RR, which came off of a GS. Bought them off a fellow member here who lives near me. They work perfectly. I find that I only use them for overnighters, as I prefer the look sans panniers. I have a small tailbag I use for local riding which handles everything needed for day rides. Also, my used bags came with liners which are very nice. They are very convenient, but I find I can cram more stuff in the cases without the liners, way more. ...just my 2 pence.
