Fuel Injector Cleaning

After installing a AF-XiED O2 Sensor Manipulators from Bemmerboneyard I was extremely pleased by the improved torque and smoothness. I have owned by 2004 for 3 years now, and I have tried all the things recommended on this site to achieve smooth running – plugs, Seafoam, new coils, FI balancing, accurate valve clearances all which provided incremental improvements but did not really make me totally satisfied, particularly where the vibrations start to kick in above 4100 rpm. The AF-XiED got me thinking. If the vibrations are as a result of imbalance in fueling between the two big cylinders maybe there was an issue with the fuel injectors themselves.
I decided to invest in a new pair of injectors (http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/Fuel-I ... 366rx2.htm). I figured I would buy a pair and then get the originals professionally cleaned.
Well installing the new injectors with the AF-XiED O2 made a big difference – 4100rpm vibrations are significantly reduced and it will pull cleanly from 1600rpm in top. Overall with the bike has been transformed into something I was really expecting when I first purchased the bike. It is so much easier to ride.
I sent the original injectors off for cleaning at the weekend (injectorexperts.com) and got them back today. Along with the cleaned injectors, comes before and after cleaning measured results.
The before pulse rate flow was 69ml and 80ml measured at 2400rpm. The after cleaning results were 82ml and 82ml.
Before cleaning there was a nearly 14% difference between the flow rate of the two injectors.
I repeat again – I have used gallons of Seafoam in this bike.
Now this bike only did 2000 miles in the first five years of its life, so this might be something to do with it. However, if you are not happy with the way your bike runs, you might want to try the professional FI cleaning approach. It cost less than $50.
