R1200R Classic and Michelin PR3's with tubes

After two sets of Metzler Roadtec Z8 tires (perfectly happy with them btw, 8-10k mi no problem) I decided to try the Michelin PR3 tires. These tires are not on the BMW list of tire options for the R1200R Classic and the Michelin Fitment Guide prohibits the use of inner tubes with the PR3 tires. Does anyone have any experience running PR3 tires with tubes on the Classic? It seems like heat/chafing on the tube might be an issue. Hope I have not made a mistake.

Michelin tires are not a mistake.

For the tubes, I can't comment I have cast wheels.

No specific experience. I've run tubes in Metzler ME33 and ME99 tires (now Lazertec) on my airhead for many years without any ill effects. However the old bike comes up a little short in performance and power compared to the new bikes. I was always told the big problem with running tubes in tubeless tires was heat build up, but that was back in the bias tire days.

Looks like your going to have to make a gut call on this one.

I had the PR3 on my Classic for over a year and 10 k km since day one. Longest distance road was 200 km. Did a few track sessions too. No issues so far.

Looks like time to install a tire pressure and temperature monitoring system. Highest I've seem my rear tire was 130 degrees while running the slabs out West, ambient temp around 100 +/-.

I don't use PR3s myself, but I don't see why they would be any different than the other tubeless type tires that are being used with tubes on the Classic. If I had to guess, I'd say the only reason it's not on the BMW recommended list, is because it was introduced after the list was published.

Even the OEM installed configuration violates a couple of Metzler's restrictions given on their website. The vehicle and tire manufactures seem to point the finger at one another when it comes to responsibility.

It is good to know others are using the PR3s on the Classic with no problems. Thanks.

I'm on my second set of PR3s on my Classic. Love 'em, no issues.
