My turn signal light is out. I can buy a light for BMW from one (ebay) to four dollar (a dealer) and I'll have to pay shipping. What is an automotive light bulb for the turn signal light that a part house might sell? The actual part number is 07 11 9 905 337.

take the bulb out and bring it to a pepboys or advance auto, etc, and look for similar. The specs are usually written on the side of the bulb somewhere.

This is a specific light bulb. You have to buy it a BMW. They have the knobies in a strange places so no other light bulb actually fits. $4 sounds reasonable. BMW of Las Vegas tried to charge me $8.99 for one. I rode home to Chicago without a turn signal...

I would (and Have) never bought a light bulb from a dealer. The mark up is ridiculous and usually the bulb or an exact replacement can be found in your local auto parts store. If not you can always go to the net to find info on how to identify and purchase the bulb. Here's a good place to start http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/t.pl but their are many others. I have driving lights on one of my bikes (non BMW) the Harley dealer wants almost $30 for a replacement bulb, I got a replacement at the local lighting supply for $4.95. Bulbs are like batteries - spend some time educating yourself and you can save some money and if you need one while on the road a replacement is only an auto parts store away.

That being said, and before the 'experts' come out of the walls. Sometimes MC bulbs have an extra part on the filament to keep it from vibrating and this increases the cost, true for Honda but don't know about BMW. That may be necessary on some American air cooled twins but it's hardly an issue on a Beemer, I've run car bulbs for tens of thousands of miles without an issue.

Well I looked for that specific bulb in every gas station and auto parts store all the way from Las Vegas to Chicago they just don't have the one that fits. They have similar ones that you have to pry in there with force. It's either small and white (not yellow) so this one doesn't fit the socket or big yellow one that fits in the socket, but sadly the lid doesn't fit over that big bulb. They just don't use a bulb like that in cars so auto parts store have no reason to sell it.
Internet is a different beast. Like OP wrote on eBay you pay $1 for a bulb and $3 for shipping. I Tried that route too. Best way to go is BMW dealer. But not for $8.99.

Before I found these bulbs I decided to go with Weiser Led turn signals. I reasoned the cost plus shipping would almost pay for each side.

These are cheap enough and if the right bulb several for a group might be a good deal.

The Weisers are nice.

It's a small-envelope 10w bulb #RY10W. Beyond the amber color, the distinguishing feature is that the two pins that lock it into the socket are not 180゜degrees apart, but 210゜. The non-opposite pins sockets are rare. I have heard of folks using a regular 10w bulb by filing off one of the pins.

These are dual filament bulbs, I'm pretty sure (because I just looked) that the one in the directional is single.

You are right Harry. The bulbs in the link above are duel filament. I selected the wrong one of two. The link below is for a single filament bulb.

dbrick...one of the reviews mentions the posts on the side are staggered. But the staggered posts still might not be in the proper place. At a $1.95 verses $8.95 it seemed a possible solution.... but all four of my bulbs worked for four long years.

Good odds, Robert, I'm also rolling the dice that way. On my prior Oilhead, I replaced one turn signal bulb in 11 years.

My bulb failed not without a cause. I had an accident where that turn signal took the bunt of the force.

The staggered posts seem to be a European thing. Maybe a slight difference in the wattage of the bulb.

The base does look the same as the BAU15S, but the globe on the RY10W is smaller.

I saw a bulb labeled Philips RY10W on Amazon with a cylindrical, not spherical, globe. It was a pretty short cylinder, 'tho, shorter than that shown in the link in your April 2, 2:01 p.m. post.

Awesome link, saved that one to favorites. Probably out of stock because BMW is the only customer and buys annual run of these bulbs. We've collectively spent the $3.95 Max Bmw wants for a new one already. Ohh well fun anyway.
