Yup, I thought that too. I've still got my original but I have thought about replaceing it and if I were building a custom bike I would jetison the huge stock can.

Unfortunately most exhaust systems on the later 1200 models are causing eye-cancer. This is due to noise and fuel economy regulations in many parts of the world. The same however applies to other manufacturers as well. But fortunately there is a huge aftermarket out there with much nicer looking cans ...

BMWs are somewhat expensive and it is no big deal to shell out a few extra hard-earned bucks for a neat looking can.

I'm pretty sure that custom bike is from Germany and they have some strict rules about exhaust systems. And they don't look the other way if you bend the rules. Over here it could have a nice straight through fishtail and set off car alarms as you rode by.

Sure looks good...... But if ya got an inseem greater the 24" it'll be a tight fit.

How right you are! Bike is from Gemany and yes we have strict rules about exhausts. But rules are there to be bent ...

Metisse is a maker of aftermarket products and you can buy that bike complete or a kit (https://www.metisse.de/catalogsearch/re ... cr&x=0&y=0).

We have these technical inspections every 2 years which includes the exhaust gases (but not the noise levels!). Anyway, there are off course inspectors which are more lenient and there are the pitbulls. Fortunately we have the choice where to go ...

The noise levels are checked during homologation plus we have random tests by local police authorities. So better not exaggerate with the noise levels over here.

With the riding position, why not just buy a 1200S- the exhaust is in the right position and looks right. Or go all the way and get a HP2 Gibbo

This is indeed verrry nice ... I owned an orginal - Ducati 1982 900ss ( in 1982 ). Not sure I'd want my nice comfy Roadster turned back into a that rolling rack. If I did I'd probably buy the Paul Smart ...

It wasn't what I was expecting! Here in the UK Metisse are/were noted for producing bike frames which were originally for motocross. The were made by the Rickman brothers. They had a stand at the big bike show in Birmingham in November. So here I was expecting a Metisse frame with a BMW engine and not just a tarted up R. It's very nicely tarted up I must admit. I notice the fork leg wind deflectors have gone
