Fellow Riders...

Its that time again...Need to replace the tires..Question is which pair to get..I do a lot of work <20 mile mostly straight commutes and weekend twisty riding when the wife doesnt have me working on the do list. I was looking at Pilot 2's and Metzler Z6 but am open for other suggestions...Goal of course is longevity and safe handling in all weather..Im not a ride her hard type but do like the occasional peg scrape...Any advise?

I am enjoying my PR3's for longevity and great handling in the rain. Just came back from a 2 day trip, mostly in the rain, from Palo Alto to Seattle and the tires performed great. It's been about 8000 miles since I put on the PR3's and they look like they have a long way to go before I need to replace them.

Metzeler Z6 are the cheapest well known brand I could find in the UK.

I had two sets of Pirelli Diablo Stratas previously and liked them a lot, but they're no longer produced. I have the PR3s installed now and am very impressed with them. I saw one of the others mention price, In my area I can have tires installed for about $20 each so I mail order the tires and have them installed at the Honda dealer. Premium tires will cost in the neighborhood of $300. If you can find a deal on Z6s or PR2s they are certainly good tires for the RR.

I have used 880s, Z6s, Stradas, and Angels on my R. This time I decided to try Continental's Conti Motion for the front (I still have a good Angel in the back). The Motions are half the price of a Z6 and are meant as a sports-touring tire for the "cost-conscious buyer". I did the installation myself and I carefully examined the construction, comparing it with the much more expensive Strada that I was replacing. It's a nice-looking tire, very similar to the Strada, and I could not see a difference in construction or quality. Once installed, I found the tire delightful. Granted, the Strada had worn into a bit of a V-shape, but I don't remember it ever being this stable and easy to lean as this Conti Motion. In fact, it reminded me of a set of Z4 that I had once liked very much on an old Honda Hawk GT.
This tire is a bargain. All reviews I have seen are very positive too, and we'll only have to see how long it lasts.

I currently have Bridgestone 023s on the bike and like them so far(only 1500 miles so far). I had the PR2s but didn't like them as much as the PR1s. I had z6s a long time ago, but didn't like them in the rain, and they don't give a lot of indication before the cords show. A lot of people like the PR3s but I did the Bridgestones because they were $80 cheaper than the Michelins.
