Considering The R1200R

This bike is on my short list as my new motorcycle. I do have a question for you current owners.
What kind of heat, if any, do your shins feel from the boxer motor on long rides? Since your
shins are blocked from airflow by the cylinders I assume there is some radiant heat.

The lack of heat coming off the boxer motor is one of the really great features of this design. On the other hand, I had a Guzi Breva that put out massive heat in the summer . . . right on the legs. You'll be happy in this regard,

I would also add that I routinely place my legs on the motor on longer rides to strech out for a few minutes and the heat has never bothered me. Of course I wear at least jeans.

I have been stuck in dreadful traffic around NYC last summer, and never once had a problem with either engine overheating or heating up my legs. Overall, this bike is among the safest and nicest to ride.

I've ridden the R12R but I've not had a chance to ride it for a few hours at a time.

It aint a Harley!
The oil radiator behind the front wheel is where most of the heat is dumped, so you do not feel it.

Me too. I'd add that there's so little heat from the jugs that I don't feel any heat through my boots when I do this, nor do I feel heat on my shins when riding. I wear Sidi OnRoads most of the time.
The cylinders do make a nice place to warm up your gloves when you stop for a couple minutes on a cold day.
