BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I'm thinking about putting in an HID Kit for my 2004 BMW R1150RT. Has anyone had any experience with them? I would like to replace both low beam and high beam bulbs. Any recommendations on the kit, tips or difficulties with the install will be greatly appreciated.

Just a follow up to my original posting. I spoke to a parts guy at BMW Shop who referred me to One Off Motorsports. I did order my HID light from them and it cost me a little over $100 if I recall correctly. Their customer service was great and answered my questions patiently and professionally. I asked about replacing the high beam light as well since I was going to be digging into the headlight assembly. They didn't list the high beam part and advised against it unless I was really mechanically inclined. They even sent me instructions written by one of their customers who did this. He happened to be an electrical engineer and he provided it as a courtesy to anyone who may be interested in doing so. It was much more complicated than the low beam so I chose against it. Anyway, the light works great and wasn't difficult to put in at all. My brother in law has a small garage full of tools and had everything we needed to make the modification which I'm sure helped the process. It took us about an hour to get done from beginning to end. That includes going back to the website to look at their instruction video a couple times just to make sure we're doing it right. I'm really happy with my investment and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for HID light kit.

I put in a HID for the low beam and it is great. The PO had the Piaa 85 watt low beam installed and after replacing it the second time (costly), I said not another. About three months after installing the second bulb, I had no lights after starting one day. After lots of checking I found I had a bad ground one the high beam Y connector (normal headlight problem with the r1150rt). Both the low beam and the high beam are grounded through this connector and at the same time when or hi beam (to many amperes for the connector). That is why I went with the HID and the light output from the 35 watt HID is about twice of what the 85 watt Piaa put out.
The bulb holder for the high beam was a problem for installing both HIDs. The wire for the HID bulb rums straight out the back and the holder for the bulb has a side opening.

I have put HID in my R1100R and loved it. If your bike has 2 bulbs (low/high) just go for the low and replace that by HID. Its like day and night. Just don't go for the cheapest el cheapo chinese stuff. Instead pay an extra 10 bucks and get a better quality ballast/electronics.
