Exchanging Roadster with Rockster handlebars

I have Roadster handlebars and I just received original Rockster handlebars that I want to put on. I have heated grips on my handlebars. Would anyone have instructions on how to do this? I am stuck with the plastic cover not coming off. I do not want to break anything. I read one post that said that in order to replace handlebars with heated grips you need to remove/lift the fuel tank to get to the heated grips cabling? Why is that? Any help / advice is much appreciated. I do not have Hayes or other service manual either.

The heated grip wiring plugs into the loom separately to the rest of the handlebar wiring with plugs under the tank (there's a large collection of plugs there for the switchgear etc wiring).
The wiring for each bar-grip runs through the handlebar itself and exits through two small holes hidden within the switchgear assemblies (IIRC). There's JUST enough slack with everything undone to move the grips off the end of the bars but be careful - the wiring is really rather thin.

I thought there is not enough space to get the heated grip cables with the plugs through the tiny holes in the handlebar ... In that case the contacts need to be pried out of the connectors and then the cable through the handlebar. Or cut the connectors get the cables out and back in through the new bar and reconnect ...
At least this is what I had to do when mounting the tubular bars on my R1100R.

I followed one of the past posts on this and removed my tank in order to pull the heated grips cables. I had to cut the cables but that is no problem. Original Rockster bars look much wider and hope better to ride with considering my preferences and size. It is quite a job to replace the handlebars having to remove the fuel tank due to those heated grips cables.....

Well if you got quick-connectors on your fuel lines it is an easy task to remove the tank. Just a matter of minutes. If you haven't it is a good investment to go for.
