Cee Bailey windshield

Greetings to all!
This is my first post on this forum. I am looking at putting a taller windscreen on my 1150R as I have the sport shield currently and need a little bigger screen for the road to cut down on noise and buffeting. Has anyone tried these shields? I'm looking at the 21.5 or 22" screen.

I had a 21" Cee Bailey's Eurocut and found the buffeting was just as bad if not worse than with the sport screen. Some have had other results. You might want to take a look at my windshield mod post I put up today.
The Parabellum SuperTour is an improvement over the Eurocut but by no means perfect, though I think that with some modifications it can be vastly improved. The mods I am making to the Parabellum would also apply to the Cee Bailey's in one way or another. Just know that you can't really deflect the air around you. That's just not how the aerodynamics of the system play out.

I did read your post and will follow the results. Looks like the Parabellum might be the only answer, bummer cause it's not the greatest looking. That being said looks aren't everything when your rollin down the road and can't hear and are getting pummeled by the turbulence. :-)

I've got the 21.5" eurocut screen and I think it's somewhat better than the BMW touring shield. In no way would I say there was any comparison with the sport screen. I'm 5'10 and the air from the sport screen hits me square in the chest. I get less buffeting from the Cee Bailys screen but none of them are perfect; I also bought the darkest tint they had which makes it look better than the clear screen.

It is kind of a dog as far as looks go. I plan on trimming the edges as I go to get more of a tapered look instead of that huge rectangle. I'll only trim an inch or so at a time so as not to compromise the protection. Just remember, an effective windscreen is not so much about being huge, as it is making effective use of aerodynamic principles. We'll see what happens.

One other thing about the Cee Bailey windscreen is that it turns up at the top. While it might seem that this would help to direct airflow "up and over" the head of the rider, intuitive thinking doesn't work here. What it really does is but increase the pressure at the top of the windscreen, only strengthening the pressure differential and hence, the turbulence hitting the rider in the face. The faster you go the worse it gets except it isn't linear. For example, going twice as fast doesn't increase it twice as much. It follows more of an exponential growth which is why aircraft tear themselves apart when they exceed rated limits.

Hi. I got my 1150R last June, and the windscreen noise & buffeting are really my only gripes with it. Short of going to the rally and having everyone trade bikes for test rides, Max's BMW was having a fall color test drive event at Hunter Mountain in the Catskills. I was able to try out a R1200R, naked, which seemed quieter than my BMW with its touring screen, although 75mph felt faster than it does on my bike. I also tried the 1600 tourer, which has an adjustable height screen. I played with that for 20 miles.I'm 6'2",and at full up position there was relative silence and zero buffeting.BUT, I was then looking through the screen, which was disconcerting in the curves. So, for me now the solution is earplugs,but I will continue to follow this thread. Best of luck to us all.

Try taking the screen off. You might be surprised at the results.

It has been my experience that [if] you want a quiet / no buffet ride, it is necessary to look
through the windshield.
My experience is with several BMWs , other standards, & cruisers alike. Also just windshields & windshield/fairing combinations. There are shileds made that have good optics, with little to no distorsion.
One factor that does change things is, how close / far the rider is to the shield.
In recent years I've become prone to go for the least buffetting, & ear plugs. Don't ride in as cold of weather as I used to, & when it rains I look for a warm cozy tavern/hotel....

I may be late to this thread, but my bike (purchased used) in 2006 came with a Cee Bailey shield. I'm 6'1" and the ride home from point of purchase in Northern California to my home in Southern California. I immediately set out to make the bike more user friendly. The three major improvements, ergonomically, for me, have been: 1. A Bill Mayer Saddle (ride in, custom fit); 2. lowered pegs and shifter; and, 3. I added a Laminar Lip to the top of the Cee Bailer and life got better right away. They make Lips to fit most any factory or aftermarket shield or fairing if extra wind protection is what you need.
