Spoked Wheel Conversion

I have a 2002 BMW R1150R and would like to put spoked wheels on my bike. Does anyone know if the wheels from a GS will fit the R1150R?

I don't think so because the GS front wheel was larger in dia. The R was sold with spoked wheels hence watch out for these. Or get yourself a GS wheel and a 17" rim and get it spoked ...

I'm curious whether the new spoked wheels on the R1200R Classic would fit the R1150R...even though I still struggle with 'why' BMW put a tire requiring tubes on such an innovative bike. One dealer justified the decision by stating, "BMW wanted to stay with a CLASSIC design!" I then questioned why they put ABS on it and he seemed confused...oh well.

I thought the "new" spoked wheel was [tubeless]? The ones with the spokes fixed at the safety bead?

Could be. My Montesa has rims like that for exactly this reason. Either way, there MUST be some safety issue, probably related to a meaningless legal ruling, they are ensuring they don't run afoul of.

I too dream of the day that I can fit spoked wheels to my R1150.

I have done a fair bit of looking about and this bloke has some in stock (with the patented BMW Cross Spoking for tubeless tyres) and if you have your own disc rotors they will set you back about $650 a piece.

If only I had the cash, but alas I don't so it would be curmudgeonly to conceal this useful fact. By all account the cross spoking is an ass to true up, but hot damn they look fine. he can also do power coated rims and a bucket load of cool stuff.....if you have the $$.

Those are the advantages as I see them. I am simply doing a complete overahul on my bike this winter(i.e., Jet-Hot coating on header pipes, re-polishing my Staintune exhaust, replacing my stock shocks with Wilbers, installing custom seat, etc.) BTW, my local BMW dealer mentioned it would cost approximately $1500.00-$1600.00 to replace my stock cast wheels so it's nearly the same price for custom built wheels.

I am less familiar with the R1100R and whether the spoked wheels on the special model will fit on the R1150R?
