The Iron Butt Rally final report is now on line. The most miles ridden in the 11 days of the rally was 14,185 miles. The most ever ridden in an IBR. That rider lost points at the end for coming in late so he did not win the rally.
Interesting note. Out of the top 10 finishers, only 3 were BMWs this year!

Looks like Yamaha FJR1300s (7 in top 20, 16 finishers), Honda ST1300s (4 in top 20, 9 overall), and Honda Gold Wings (4 in top 20, 15 overall)
were bikes of choice for finishers.
5 BWMs in top 20.
Interested to know what specific problems were encountered with R1150** bikes this year.

BMW most represented had a 15% dnf rate
All Yamahas finished
Honda next most represented, 4% dnf rate
quick and dirty calcs, admittedly
what are the logistics for this ride? do they sleep in motels, camp, what? Do they travel with a sag wagon to carry tools and luggage?

No, they can't have a support vehicle. But, they can get help with repairs and such. Here's a rule book from 10 years ago.

Interestingly, one of the FJR's was found to have a bad final drive just before the start of the IBR. It was replaced w/ one from another FJR.
Didn't think that final drives were a concern w/ the FJR. Go figure.
