How about input on amsoil in a 60.600 mile bike that only has had regular oils thanks.

Oil. Its black, slippery, and makes a mess of the oceans. Oh, and it costs too much, seems to be entirely too dangerous to ship around the world, but it DOES make the world go around these days. That's my opinion on oil.

Use whatever meets spec at Walmart. This week they are carrying Valvoline 4T 20W-50 Synth for $7/ea. I will personally vouch for it working as advertised.

The debate goes on...
If the moto had dino oil in it does one keep using dino oil, or the same with synthetic? Jim at Ned's in Riverside Iowa says to stay with whatever oil type (dino-synthetic) that has always been in the bike. This line of thought is that the oil seals become seasoned by the oil type (dino-synthetic) used. Another mechanic will say it doesn't matter as an oil seal is an oil seal so use whatever you want.
Brand wise it's up to the consumer as the technology and science has come a long way and the major brands aren't really much different from one another whether it be a dino or synthetic oil. Happy maintaining and don't take the ribbing personally, sift through the site and keep a running tally on all the oil threads, perhaps you'll laugh.
Wait till storage season comes around and the ritual rain dance, pre-historic chant, and anti-freeze threads start up...

In all seriousness I have run Castrol 20/50 summer and 10/40 winter (dino) since 2003. And I once had a tranny leak in 2004 when I tried to switch from dino to synthetic. BMW replaced seal and I went back to dino in the transmission. No leaks since.
Now I do prefer Prestone in the cooling system though.

I make my own antifreeze for Moon. i also use Amsoil all around. I even dab a little behind each ear when I change the crankcase oil. Here is a link to the Amsoil oil study.

Give it a read and decide for yourself. I would stick with the OEM oil filter, as I understand it is designed to get oil to the moving parts quicker. A friend of mine prefers Redline.
