Hey guys, and girls
whats the preference around here for engine bars, i know there are at least 3 different ones that can be bought

I am inclined to go with the cheaper ones from sw-motech, but wanted to enlist everyone's opinion on the subject?

Have used BOTH places for parts; wonderful service from either company. I put the sw-motech on my bike from TwistedThrottle and they have been worth EVERY penny!

I have the motechs and was pleased with the look, the ease of installation, and the price. The parts are left and right side specific, so lay the parts out beforehand to avoid confusion.

I'd like to find something like a stunt cage that would completely protect the bike from a crash - just so I could use it for some hard core (guaranteed crash) slow-maneuver training. I really like the idea of gymkhana and would love to be able to handle my R12R like that but I can't afford to trash my bike. Maybe I'll just pick up a cheap 600 and completely trash it instead. Some of the skills have got to carry over.

Oh darn, thanks for posting that. Something that I now need that I hadn't thought of yet...

I definitely like the look of the Wunderlich much better and would purchase that one if I had the extra $$.

SW-Motech. Great protection, and make great highway pegs. They also look OEM as the tubing is an exact match to the frame in the bike:

Ditto - I'm luv'n my SW-Motech's, but hope I never need to put them to the test...

I have the Hepco-Becker crash guards from A&S BMW (http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=47656). They look identical to the Wunderlich brackets although they are somewhat less expensive. I don't recommend them. I tipped my bike over on the smooth garage floor (I was on the lawn tractor at the time) and the valve cover got scraped up. I called A&S and asked what the point of the crash guards was if they don't even protect the valve covers in a zero-speed tip over. The guy said that wasn't their purpose; they are intended to protect the cylinders in a more serious crash. I wouldn't have spent $200 to save the insurance company some money in the case of a more serious crash.
