BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

Hi there, I’m new to the BMW scene having only just bought a R1150R Rockster.
I have had many bikes from a TL’S to a DR 750, but I was after something more reliable with that twin cylinder engine braking but also slightly different so when I came across the Rockster It kind of ticked all the boxes!
I’ve only covered a couple of hundred miles and I can honestly say I’m loving every minute of it!
I’ve noticed that the bike seems to backfire every now and then, it isn’t a predictable thing it just seems to do it sometimes when I’m rolling off the throttle after I’ve covered about ten miles or so. The choke is defiantly off when this happens.
Can anyone tell me if it is a conmen thing or is my bike just over fuelling slightly and backfiring when the exes fuel has built up?

No aftermarket exhaust, all standard.

you are using appropriate octane fuel?

Could be an air leak in the exhaust system. Try tightening up a few pipe clamps.

Had the same problem. Turned out to be the stick coils. Ran great before catching on fire. Lol.

That would make sense - I think my bike is doing it occasionally too, and I'm certain the coil-caps are dead.

Yep, they can't stand moist; had to replace mine almost every year (bike always parked outside, riding whole year)
