Backfired and right side exhaust popped off...

Hi,
not sure of the technical name for the part (hose?) that popped off...
Bike backfired and the rubber piece attached to the right side popped off.
It is after the throttle piece.
I see the metal ring with screw around it.
I loosened it up and pushed the hose back on, tightened it up - but then popped off again when I started the bike.

It doesnt seem like much of the hose goes on - any suggestions?

Thanks!
Chris

Do you mean the piece which comes from the airbox and connects to the throttle body

Or you mean the part which connects the Throttle body to your cylinder head

Either way it is a problem as this is your intake and not your exhaust ...

Air intake....thanks for the detailed pics!

Looks like it is the throttle body to the cylinder #7....

So how do I attach it to get a tight fit?

I think that you have a bigger problem than a tight fit for you air intake tube.
You bike shouldn't be backfiring when the intake valve is open and blow the hoses off your airbox. The hose clamps are there simply to prevent air leaks not for guarding against irreguar combusiton. From my experience, the best place to start is with properly adjusted valves and synchronized (non-leaking) throttle bodies. From there, you should check the timing. All of these things are easy to do and require only light reading, minimum tools and patience. When I bought my first oilhead, I started by printing this out and reading it: http://www.advrider.com/Wisdom/OVADv2.2.pdf

Do you live anywhere near Atlanta, GA?

Thanks!

I am in Jersey City above Hoboken, NJ.

I will take a look at the doc you linked to over the weekend and see if I can fix this.
