I was wondering how much of a hassle is it to lower the exhaust to accommodate the regular size system case?

Seems like I've seen a post some time ago that had info about a kit to do that.

Might have been basically a short elbow that pointed the rear of the muffler lower
and an extended hanger.

just might get lucky and turn something up in a search on this forum

Just FYI - Awhile ago there was a flurry of posts around doing something like this,
which I have done. But I'm not a long distance rider either.

Probly not legal in some areas, is a little louder than the stock setup,
if installed pointed in the right direction is only really significantly louder under
hard acceleration. Just barely hear it with a helmet on at steady road speed.

Sounds decent if you like a more powerful sound. Drops a few pounds, too.
And easy to do. Cost under $20.

I got the local custom exhaust shop to bend a short piece of stainless pipe. I also got them to cut, drill and bend two lengths of bar to lower my exhaust. One bar fits to the muffler mount on the frame and the other is attached behind the rear footrest by replacing the lower mounting bolt with a longer one and a nylock nut. These two bars then form a triangle when you connect them at the muffler.
If you still have the cat on your bike an even cheaper soution is to replace the muffler with a stubby tail pipe like you get for the end of your car exhaust.

Here's a nice looking polished stainless hanger that could be used to lower the muffler,
along with some kind of elbow between it and the cat outlet.

BMW muffler lowering kit

1 82000419398 BM BHP Muffler mounting bracket

182000419400 BM BHP Muffler adapter pipe

The kits other than BMW do not have a mount for the front of the left saddlebag.

I was able to order these from my local dealer, Irv Seaver, here in Orange, Ca.
