Best ride of the year so far

Ortega to Railroad Cnyn, Sage Road, lunch at Santa Ysabel. Clear, calm. Ok, 42 is chilly when your new Gergings don't work, but never mind. Here's the curious part: after lunch I noticed my average speed display indicated 2mph -- curious because we had gone about 150 miles in about four hours. When the display indicated about 80 miles to reserve, I figured I would need a gas stop about the time I hit reserve. With the display indicating 10 miles to reserve, I ran out of gas. Got back on the road without a lot of aggravation. Outstanding ride in spite of it. Guess the display is going to require some attention. Just saying. Anyway, great day for a ride.
Best wishes to all for a happy and prosperous new year. Hope yours begins at least as well as mine.
Dave

How many miles had you traveled when it quit?
By 200 miles, I want gas now, regardless of what the display says. Those are estimations based on throttle setting, fuel strip readings, and predicted speed and load.
Did it stop before the low fuel light came on? If so your fuel strip is probably bad.
My mileage varies from 38 to 50 mpg, so that 205 to 270 to empty.
My average is 43 mpg which is 232 to empty.
My low fuel light comes on at 4.4 gallons used (190 miles average)
Hope this helps.

Scott is right — it's probably a bad fuel strip. The on-board computer on my bike gave wildly inaccurate readings, and it was the strip, which was replaced under warranty. After being stranded, I started using the tripmeters after every fill-up.

Good points lads, thanks. Another point is that my senior moments now seem to last all day. Usually, I don't worry much about gas since my tank capacity exceeds that of my bladder by about 100 miles. On the 1 1 1 1 ride the senior issues dominated. I'm about ready for 24K service so the display can be looked at soon.
