Mirror distortion

I have a 2008 R1200R that I just bought in early December. The left side mirror is not flat. When I move my head when looking into it the image distorts like the mirrors in the fun house do. Is this a common problem? The bike is still under warranty until August of 2011. Would a dealer replace the mirror under warranty. There is no dammage to the outside of the mirror like it was hit or anything. I do not like how things look in this mirror.

Thanks
Roger L

I haven't had that problem and haven't heard anyone else mention it. Not sure if it's a warranty item but guess it doesn't hurt to ask. A bunch of us replaced the round mickey mouse mirrors with the more oblong mirrors from the f800gs. They are a noticeable improvement over the stock mirrors imho. A quick search in this forum on this subject should turn something up if you're interested. Good luck.

Weird. I think the left mirror is supposed to be flat, or perhaps slightly convex. Definitely not worthy of a funhouse, however.

I'd head to the dealer, take a look at other left-side mirrors to make sure it isn't your perception, and then ask for a warranty replacement - it's a defect that was there when you got the bike, so it should be covered.

Re mirrors ... I personally have no complaints with the stock mirrors, but for stylistic reasons started down the path of replacement. However, I quickly ran into issues with the mirror collet threads (coarse) vs. what the bike mounts were (fine), mirror stalk diameter too large for the collets I had, and so forth. YMMV.

Good roads,
