Hi Neil, I will have mine for sale as soon as the new 2011s arrive - unfortunately I have not yet managed to get a date although I have put my order in. Probably too long a wait for you but if you don't have any luck for some time keep it in mind - has all you are looking for.

Alternatively if you get one beforehand without Ohlins, I am planning to take the Ohlins off before trading it in which I will then be selling separately.

Michael BMW Melbourne tell me the new one wont be out until the second half of next year they claim that the Australian production has not started but it sounds like BMW is just trying to palm all the old stock on to us I to would like the 2011 model but will wait a couple of years and get a good second hand one no more new for me I lost an obscene amount of money on the KTM

Could well be true, Neil, although as we have seen, rumours, gossip and innuendo are the new black in this business. I have only seen one new current/older model still on the floor of the 'glossy dealer' in Sydney (locals will know who I mean) with Akra exhaust for about $26k as I recall. Way more than I paid for mine. Will be interesting to see if any more older models appear.

The salesman at the above dealership had absolutely no idea (last week) that a new model was on its way!!! Unbelievable. What do they do all day!

Anyway, I can wait...

Neil - I don't want to start a knock the KTM or why I love my R1200R thread but I do have a question that maybe you can answer.
I have two riding friends that had KTM Adventures and only kept them a little over a year. They had nothing but good things to say about the bikes and the bikes seemed to be without issues. Both of these guys are riders and the bikes didn't spend too much time parked. The only bad thing I heard was that these bikes are maintenance intensive and if you don't do it yourself your likely to have some large service bills.

Thinking of picking up a used one when (or if) the prices come down.

The KTM SMT is a very different bike to the Adventure I did not find it expensive to maintain I did the first service my self and KTM dealer was quoting around $500.00 for a major that is what BMW want for a naked boxer in oz .As far as the ride goes the SMT is probably the most exiting bike you will ever ride but for me at the end of a long day the snatchy throttle ( even with a G2 throttle tamer ) became a hassle and for some strange reason the siting upright riding position made my back and shoulders ache really bad after a short time it surprised me because my Suzuki DR650 did not, also the passengers seat is too short and not padded enough and we still ride two up a bit. At the start of the day you want the KTM but after 500 plus Ks you defiantly want a BMW also I could not totally come to terms with the handling, I always seemed to be a bit off line but other people do not have this problem and most claim the SMT is the best handling bike money can buy for real roads I really think the main problem was with me.
The thing that has really peeved me though is I paid $22700.00 for it and a few months later every dealer in the country had them for $18000.00 this destroys the value of your bike so I lost $9000.00 in 12 months

Hi Neil , No wonder you steer clear of new bikes with a 20% drop by the dealers!

Re the r12r, I spoke to a dealer who is very cautious in what he tells me and has generally been right in the past. He assures me the official release date of the new model in Oz will be in March 2011. He also (cautiously) informed me that the new models should be slightly cheaper than the previous model and definitely no more.

As it should be I reckon, given the huge improvement in the Oz dollar against the Euro since I bought my current bike.

We will unfortunately never buy as delightfully cheaply as our American brothers and sisters who I hope appreciate the benefits of being in a huge market...
