Thanks for previous input, now may be the time to pull the trigger. the cost is almost the same,so what would you do for cold weather and rain.? I live in Maine and plan a trip to Gaspe' this coming summer. The leg guards and tank wings are considered for either but the parabellum looks a little sleeker. Are the BMW wind screens worth looking into ? Thanks

+1 on the Aeroflow. You'll be glad you got it

I'm running a 21" Parabellum SuperTour with Tank Wings and barely need a jacket with temps in the mid 40's. Not quite as large and obvious as the AeroFlow either. Plus, with the Parabellum you get a 30 day risk-free trial period. And it is much cheaper than AeroFlow. Haven't ever ridden an AF equipped bike but my SuperTour does everything I hoped it would. I've got pics of the bike with the Parabellum and wings if you want to see them.

My previous were the stock BMW sport screen and a 19" Cee Bailey's EuroCut. They were both nice parts and well-made with good mounts, but offered very little protection from the elements while inducing some absolute, head-crushing buffeting on me. Even with the Tank Wings.

The Parabellum Scout is supposed to be an excellent fairing. It is a little pricey, but the people who buy it, swear by it. You can adjust the coverage by installing different height shields. During the summer, a short one, during cool weather, a taller one.

AEROFLOW is the way to go.

The SuperTour has the same profile as the Scout, just in a one piece lexan design. I really went back and forth between the Scout and the ST and ultimately decided on the ST because it was all clear. I like the visibility of an all-clear windscreen. And short windshields buffet my head like George Foreman working out on a bag.

Don't think you could go wrong with AeroFlow or Parabellum. Probably AeroFlow would be better for long range touring. Bit more coverage. But I agree, the BMW screens, well, just don't really get the job done. There is also an interesting windscreen offered by Wunderlich. Their Vario I think. don't know much about it.

I have to disagree. Sort of. I have the BMW touring screen with the laminar lip. The lip eliminates the buffeting. Together I have a pretty good set up. Can't compare to the others however since I have no experience with them.

I love my aeroflow with the tank wings

I like the BMW touring screen with the laminar lip for the protection (wind hits top of helmet @ 70 mph), but it is very LOUD. I think it's mounting angle (rake) reflects engine noise right at my ears. Earplugs make it ok, though.

FWIW

I do have experience with the BMW touring and BMW sport screens, and also Parabellum screen.
Also I can compare them all to the screen of the K1200LT.
For a little protection and bunch of buffering, I would go with the BMW touring screen.
If your are looking for a good protection and a long range riding, I would go with an AEROFLOW and the tank wings.
The only problem with the Aeroflow touring screen, in the hot weather the cool west will not work.
This summer I did 11k to the BMWMOA rally, Canadian Rockies and back to SE with no problems.
Going 80 MPH and smoking cigarettes, while listening to the IPod, tells you something about Aeroflow screen and the wind protection and buffering you will get.

I bought a Parabellum 23" Super Tour and wind wings off E-Bay. They should be in next week. I will let you know how this combo works.

I'd like to add that a tank bag in conjunction with the set up tlwood28 has. I use the same shield with the Lip, the Lip really does help a lot. Add the tank bag and it gets even better. The bag displaces enough space that air won't be trying to get in behind the screen. Less turbulence in front of the rider= Less noise and buffeting. This little trick adds the benefit of having a storage space in front of you. A tank bag is very convenient.

Two points about lips and deflectors:

One, windscreens aren't necessarily structurally designed to have things added on to them. In some cases it can cause them to break. Second, and I think more importantly, each line you add across your field-of-vision, obstructs your forward vision. A lip is going to add two horizontal lines. Along with the screen, this will give you three. Think about it.

I look over the top of the Lip, the lines become something you don't see after awhile, it doesn't bother me. The lines you mention are not in your vision while riding if your focus is on the road. If they are in your vision, you should probably shorten the screen. Never have I said to myself, "Darn, I wish I hadn't put that Lip on there". I don't care for the look of it, I wish I didn't need it. The improvement in the ride outweighs what I think about how it looks. Oh, and I have had this set up since 2004 when I bought this bike, no signs of it failing. One thing that has happened, is the Touring shield has a thin film on the inside of the screen, it will start to flake off after 4 or 5 years. I suppose I could polish it out, but since I don't look through the screen that doesn't bother me either.
