Death Valley Ride Suggestions?

I'm planning on heading to Death Valley for an overnighter out of Vegas next month. Anyone have some suggestions? I think I want to avoid the annual "49ers Encampment" because of the crowds, but the week fits my schedule. Anyone ever do any lane-splitting with a wagon train?
