On-board computer mystery

Okay … I have the on-board computer on my 2008 R12R.
In the past the “INFO” button on the handlebars has toggled the display for average speed, average consumption and range. The trip meters, tyre pressure, distance covered, etc were toggled by the lower of the small black buttons between the tacho and the display. That was all fine and in accordance with the manual.
Now, for some reason, the functions of the buttons have been reversed. I can’t see anything in the manual to explain this, and the only thing I have played with recently is toggling the LAP timer on and off (because I was curious following a post about the lap timer!). I have disconnected the battery to see if the buttons would reset without success.
Anyone have any ideas? This is weird!

When I saw that post about the 'lap timer' I wondered if that would screw up the OBC if you asked it to do something that wasn't in the owners manual. A lot of software has stuff in it that the programmer/software owner doesn't advertise because their are bugs in it.
Has anyone else tried the 'lap timer' and experienced weird results?

I haven't, and following this thread I won't. Bugs are everywhere, that is true. The usual method is to disable functionality that is not mature, not just not mention it. It sounds as if a software version that never should have made it public is among us.

I'd try reversing the order of whatever you did to get the lap timer to appear. Failing that, how about a disconnect of the battery, and letting the whole system go to zero and then power back up?
Reversing the button function makes sense functionally, and may not be a bug: it'd be easier to push the "info" button as one passed a specific point on the track than it would be to take your hand off the bar to push the button by the display.

I tried disconnecting the battery without success.
I'm a little reluctant to retry various button combinations for fear of making the matter worse, though having said that, when the problem first appeared I did try to reverse out the combination. Maybe I need to press more firmly while having one leg in the air, who knows ...
Next step is my local dealer. I'm due for a service in a couple of weeks and hopefully there's some sort of reset that can be done. It's not the end of the world, but definitely invonvenient.

Geoff, whatever you do don't do it with two legs in the air. I tried it that way and it definitely is not a pleasant experience.

Turns out the owners manual for the F800R has instructions on this. As we know, pressing both the OBC buttons at the same time engages a lapt timer. It can then be toggled on and off with the bottom OBC button. The top button apparently toggles the lap timer between the INFO button on the handlebars and the bottom OBC button. Pressing both the OBC buttons then saves the setting. Confused? I am. All I know is, it's fixed now, and I'm never gonna' touch those bloody OBC buttons again at the same time ..!
