I had yesterday off. Cracked off just shy of 275 miles in northern Iowa, Weeeee. Great day although it was windy,the 09 in black ran fabulous!! They really like the cool weather. I got around 4200 miles on her now and it's starting to show signs of being broke in. No tickets leaves are just starting to turn, I think i'm going back in a week.

Ever driven your car at night on a trip and thought the motor was performing better?
Well that has happened to me a few times. I asked a machanic about it once and he said it was the colder air that was the cause.
What it does is the air intake recieves the colder air and in the airbox it condences and the motor get cooler air which it prefers, making the motor sound and perform better.
This happened to me a couple of week ago on the RR when I took it out one colder morning around 8 celcius.
It sounded and performed better. It hates the hot weather. When I get stuck at some lights I can smell the oil cooking it gets that hot.
I suppose the Germans didn't realy design them for HOT HOT weather.
This time of the year is perfect!

This morning was the first time my temperature gauge got into the 30s. Insulated gloves, neck gaiter, and layering. We're still a couple of weeks from peak leaves in Central Pennsylvania but I just finished a nice 380 mile loop with much of it through state forest roads that I had to myself.

The cool breeze you speak of made its way to our part of the country today in Mo...high of 57.

I took the maiden voyage on a newly acquired R12R today in that cool breeze,and it was AWESOME.

The R is a special motorcycle that I'm already feeling a "bonding" with...I love riding in the cool Fall weather,Oct. can be the best month of the year

The reason any normally aspirated engine runs better in cool air is because it is ingesting more dense air than is hot humid air. We airplane drivers have a saying : high, hot, humid, look out below... the engine is not developing full power and the wings cannot bite into the air as efficiently. It is known as "density altitude", and makes it look like the altitude is much higher than it actually is. On cool winter days when the humidity is low, the aircraft take off like a scalded cat and climb out at very high angles . Lots of fun !

Motorcycle engines work the same way except for the climb out part. It is getting dense cool air and develops excellent power.

I learned how to ride with a friend who was in the Air Force. She always said that riding was like flying nap-of-the-earth without an option to make the trees smaller. :-)
