Researching a purchase

Hello, I'm searching for a replacement to my Moto Guzzi Breva 1100, and R1200R is obviously on a short list. Wanted to ask couple of questions about the bike.
1. Do older bikes have servo assisted brakes? When were they discontinued?
2. I know that final drives in GS have a drain hole starting in 2008. Is this the same for R?
3. Any other differences between model years?
4. Can options like ASC and TPM be purchased as retrofit kits?
Thanks.

Hi Genka - Welcome!
- No. Died with the R1150R.
- Yes.
- Other that some of the available options (e.g. colour, ASC) no.
- Yes, but your success can vary with dealer and costs can be high. Best to get what you want from the start (in my opinion)
Cheers,
Dan

Not all 2008 models have drain holes on the final drive plug ... at least mine doesn't. But, it is an "early" '08.
Good roads,

ASC costs ~ $1,000 to add IF it can be done (and that's determined by the version of the Motronic the bike has.) In general, I believe most '08's and newer can have it added.
TPM can't be added because BMW refuses to release the activation codes for it. If added - the parts alone are more then $700.. BMW gets $600+ for the activation code for ASC, I expect the TPM code - if they ever decide to release it for retrofit - would be around the same. Add in 2 hours of labor - you're looking at $1,500 or so. IF it could be done (and right now - it can't.)
As has been said - get the options you want on the bike you're buying. The one with the right options will turn up sooner or later, and think of the adventure you can have riding it home..

Thanks for the answers. It looks like retrofitting doesn't make sense. I don't know why they want to charge so much more compared with prices when buying a new bike.
One more question- do 2010 models have vented final drives?
My 2006 Moto Guzzi had a final drive with a drain and a vent.

No. The 2010 has the easier to change the oil in final drive (drain on the bottom..) The idea of not venting is to prevent moisture contamination of the oil.

There were also some subtle seat changes around 2008. I think it was to make the pillion more comfortable but I am not sure. Also, the terminals for the blinkers changed around 2008. This only matters if you want to retrofit the BMW L.E.D. blinkers.
