Hi everyone,

Recently when Ive been filling my tank, afterwards Ive noticed a petrol smell and slight dripping from the right side of the tank.

I had a close look tonight and I noted that a few hoses that appear to be disconnected.

and closer (you can see the 2 hoses up in the top right of the picture),

Anyone have any idea what these hoses are for? Obviously they need to be reconnected. Does anyone know if it matters which hose goes on which connnector (the common sense in me says bottom hose, bottom connector etc, but I just wanted to make sure)?

Many thanks all,

Jed.

Same thing happened to me. When I had the fuel sensor replaced, the dealership mechanic forgot to hook those hoses up. I did some research, and finally went to look at a new bike to make sure.

This image is from the current BMW service manual on DVD. It is for the non-USA model, which is different than the USA model. Your photo looks like you have the non-USA model, which would make sense being down under.

The top connector has a hose on the back that runs back to the "Rain Drain" in the fuel filler assembly. It just needs to be connected to a drain hose that runs down to the bottom of the bike, near the right footpeg.

The bottom connector has a hose on the back that goes to the vapor emissions collector on the tank. On USA models, that has a hose on the front that goes to the top of the charcoal canister. On the Non-USA model I THINK they're both just drains, and it doesn't make much difference, but I'm not sure about that.

Hope it helps.

Jed,

It looks like you've got a screw that's about to vibrate out! Second picture, the one that holds the brake-line to the frame!

Dave,

Thanks for that diagram that you posted, that's very helpful and I really appreciate it. I think that the Aussie model (and others) does not have the charcol canister fitted. I thought that those hoses might be just drain hoses, so Im glad it doesnt seem to be a major issue.

David,

Thanks for pointing out the screw. As soon as I read your post, I darted in to the garage check it and it turns out that the screw just looks loose in the photo. It was actually nice and snug still. Mind you, your not the only one to say that I have a screw loose.

Thank you both again for your help.
