Just received an email from the local Ohlins supplier that says the shocks for the Rockster are discontinued? Can that be right??

The Ohlins built to the Rockster specs out the door from the factory are discontinued. I think you may be able to find them on ebay though, maybe other places as well.

I just ordered a pair through a local independent mechanic (Mitch's Motorcycles) that are being built (by a guy that specializes in Ohlins) to the Rockster specs with a few internal changes to better match the bike. I think it took the gentleman in NC two days to modify the shocks and about a week for shipping. Try either of Mitch's sites:http://www.mitchsmotorcycles.com/ or http://ohlinsforless.com/. If you go this route, tell him you are interested in Rockster shocks and that Jarrod sent you.

Like any bike some years past end of production, the R1150R's aftermarket is drying up. But as jas confirms, you can get fresh Ohlins for Rockster via specialist shop and some shock rebuilding/reconfiguration.

That's what I did: bought used shock and had it rebuilt as Rockster rear, with fresh seals and internals. The original was Roadster-spec, and changes for Rockster use required new shock body, etc. My front Ohlins is a new Roadster-spec unit which I'll use as is, noting that Rockster-spec should be slightly shorter.

Ves posted some good Ohlins info here a couple years ago.

If I did it all over again, would source a used Ohlins set for BMW R1150** that had the right basic setup (rear preload, internal reservoir front) and have them rebuilt to suit by local (preferably) Ohlins approved shop.

Thanks to all for the info. Interesting stuff!! I have confirmed configuration differences between all of the 4 versions for the R1150**. I'll get some info from the recommended shops and see what I can come up with.

FWIW I think I have the first set of YSS shocks built for the Rockster, at least in the U.S. Great upgrade!

Not sure where you're located, but this is the company that did mine

http://www.epmperf.com/

Might want to give them a call, see if that will work for you. Good luck!

Thanks!! YSS (as I understand) are closely related to Wilbers and would be an option. I'll check with EPM and see what they have to say.
