Here are a few more mods done to my 2003 1150R.

Wunderlich cowl - replaces rear section of seat. Had a few problems mounting it as bracket supplied was to long and holes drilled in the wrong place on the cowl base. Wunderlich very unhelpful so I had to cut and redrill it myself after lots of measuring.
Also Wunderlich rear wheel hub centre fitted & Remus carbon end can & Y pipe



Carbon fibre oil cooler covers and rear hugger

I've always been curious about the under-the-cowl storage compartment that wunderlich boasts. Mind showing a close up of that?

Will take a picture, there is a small hatch in the base of the cowl secured by 2 screws but all I keep in it is the puncture kit well wrapped up in bubble rap and a pair of waterproof trousers as anything loose would move around and if heavy could crack/damage the cowl. It is well made of Fiberglass - you could not get the standard BMW tool roll through the or if you did it would be a tight fit.

As requested - carbon fibre hatch secured with 2 screws., I have had to shorten the mounting arm and move it back as Wunderlich supplied it too long and drilled in wrong place - very poor customer service - had to work it out myself by measuring original seat but dimensions were different so did a few trial fittings before cutting and drilling.(this is before I cut it and moved mounting towards front of bike) But despite this I am happy with the look

As I recall, those cowls are an awful lot of money for it not to fit on the first go. How do they justify the poor fit?

I was honestly looking into getting one of those, but if they have to be modified to fit, and customer service is that crappy, I might have one custom fabricated.

I was actually thinking of fabricating a rear cowl from wood. Don't laugh, it is the original layered, fiber material. It is strong, lightweight, and properly finished, looks identical to fiberglass and is completely weatherproof.

Sure, if you can layer it properly, then weather seal it and keep it from getting wet or from cracking in the heat. Fiberglass is quite a bit easier to work with, lighter, and more weatherproof than wood.

Not set up for glass but I'm an expert with wood. Always wanted to try glass though.
