Any suggestions why a front tyre would be wearing considerably more on one side than the other?

The tyre is a Michelin pilot road 2. I haven't bounced it off anything, and haven't had this problem with other brands of rubber.

The attached pic doesn't show the extreme wear difference that is evident.

No noticeable tracking when riding, even hands free.

Any suggestions? Has anyone else had a similar occurrence? Tyre has done 5k kilometres (3k miles) and needs replacing, which is the polite way of expressing its condition.

I and my friends in New Zealand have had very similar experiences - our roads here have chip seal which is fairly aggressive and a good road camber when riding the back roads. The combination wears out the nearside front rather than the middle of the tyre and we've had more problems with the dual compound tyres where the softer compound has worn out way before the centre of the tyre. Hope this helps. Have reverted to single compound since (Z6 and the like) and this seems to reduce the problem.

Thanks for your feedback. Just need to clarify the term "nearside". I am assuming since we both ride on the left side of the road, well some of the time, then the offside of the tyre, ie the right side would be the worn side, it is on mine. This is assuming the curb side is the nearside.

At a little over $200 aud for a front tyre and 5,000 km riding, i might start riding down the white centre line.

You're right! I meant the offside (side nearest the white line).
