Yes, it is not beautiful!

The Parabellum Scout Fairing removed the wind noise that developed from the air coming up and over the gas tank.
I might purchase a 14" Parabellum smoked shield and replace this cut down shield or just paint the existing one black. It will improve the looks.

The R1150RT shield takes care of the rest. I used the RT shield because I had it.

The u-bolts that connect the Ram Mounts to the lower windshield mount give the windshield adjust-ability. By rotating the u-bolts on the handlebar the height and rake will change.

There is still some touch up painting to do.

I do not know what will happen in a hard rain.

Napoleon mirrors are preferred over the stock mirrors so that was easy.

I am 6'1" with 30" inseam so have 43" of torso to deal with. Stock seat and I sit upright so all other windshields have had too much wind noise.

It is nice that earplugs are not mandatory anymore.

Now that I know the exact position for the windshield I might have bracket made that attaches to the handlebar clamp or I might look into extending the fork tubes higher (smaller diameter) and build off of that.

Why not use a taller screen on the Parabellum rather than jury-rig the additional screen?

That was going to be my question.

I'm 6'1" also but my torso is 38" and the 20" tall screen works well for me.

IIRC, Parabellum will supply a 22" screen, even though it's not listed on the site. Might give them a call and see if that still holds true, if you at all care about preserving the good looks of the BMW brand.

I spoke to them and tried the tallest screen they had. My helmet sounded like a tornada.
Will check the old invoice and see what size it was. If I can purchase a taller screen I will.

Maybe the Frankenstein job is why the noise is gone? You know, along the lines of the CalSci shields' claim to be superior in that department because they have pressure balancing openings. Pure speculation on my part though since I have neither the CalSci nor the Parabellum.

you are using a 20" Parabellum and I have 5" more torso. That is why it is loud. When people did the survey way back when there was another 43" torso with a 20" screen that rated it loud also. I did not set out to jury-rig a windshield but after I purchases three that did not work I did not have a choice. I sometimes wish I was in the BMW aftermarket windshield business. You can sell something that does not work all day long and the buyer then sells it on this list or Ebay. If I was smart enough I would have manufactured three different brands and retired a few years later. When I think about the money I spent on RT shields and then R shields I don't feel good about it. Where else in the world do you spend between $100 - $200 and end up with a product that does not work.

I admire your determination and ingenuity, but if I were having that much trouble I'd just buy a convertible.

2 things:

1) I'm really glad you finally got something to work, Bobby. You've been at it for awhile!

2) There's gotta be a way to reproduce your results without turning your beautiful bike into something that looks like it was rescued from the Island of Dr. Moreau - and I like Hannigan fairings!

Come on BMW, drop that bratwurst and fire up the wind tunnel. Poor Bobby shouldn't have to do your jobs for you!
