R1200R Sound track

I'm thinking we have a great bike in the R1200R, but she's just so soft spoken. I've been wondering more and more about a slip on exhaust, and am thinking of a couple of different options -- Remus and Akrapovic.

As there are no other R's in my area, and actually precious few hexheads at all (that I've seen) I've been trying to get an idea of the sound of each from youtube. It's very hard to get a good impression from those videos though of what each sounds like relative to each other.

Has anyone heard both the Remus and Akrapovic? If so, could you possibly compare their exhaust notes? That's tough to do, I know, but maybe using things like... growl, volume, harsh/not harsh, civilized, appearance on the R1200R.... feel free to use your own terms!

Thanks in advance!

I have the Acrapovic slip on which in my opinion has a deeper growl/sound than the stock. It is lighter but in my opinion does not get you more power. Anyway I bought it strictly for looks and as mentioned it sounds better. Sorry have no comparison with the Remus.

My 1100 GS has the stock exhaust and it sounds like a properly maintained coffee pot ! :) On my RR, I just put a Carbon Fiber Remus exhaust, primarily because my son said the stock can looked just too ugly on such a petite bike. I took the removeable baffle out before installing it, figuring I'd hear the worst, or loudest, first. It sounds just great..richer and a little louder than stock, but by no means objectionable. Not even going to put the baffle in to hear what that sounds like...it's great just the way it is.

The flat boxer motor has a sound all to its own, youtube vids sound all the same to me also. The other way to hear a flat boxer engine making music is to look at for subaru cars (yes yes i know there cars), boy racers love the WRX range & 99% of them have a aftermarket muffler. They sorta make the same deep growl (subaru has a flat 4 boxer) our twin boxer makes with a end can on. I was lucky i heard a R12R with a end can plulling away from a set off lights & knew right then i needed to hear that music everyday, & i do :D .

btw i fitted a staintune can & it sounds just wonderful.

Sounds like people so far are happy with the Akrapovic and Remus. I hadn't thought of staintune before, I'll see if we have access to those in Canada.

I've noticed Akra exhausts are close to double the Remus products, I wonder what the differences are there.

Ashveratu, silence can indeed be golden! However, I just know our bikes have been muzzled and I would love to hear some sweet boxer music.
This one sounds kind of neat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXSRdiIM ... re=related

For reference, I will look into some WRX sound clips. I've always liked Subarus' growl too.

BoxerPaul,

So what is that can on the YouTube video you shared with us? Anyone know what it is? I like it!

I have no idea, but I like it too!
Maybe someone here will be able to recognize it. I'd like to find out.

I think it is louder than my Remus Hexacone. Sounded somewhat like my 1150 RS did with the Laser Exhaust did.

I've listened to a couple of the Remus cans and the Akrapovic and they don't sound like the one on YouTube and someone was right when they said it sounded like a volkswagen but it really has a good sound. I hope someone will recognize it.

On another forum there was some pretty strong feelings the exhaust was an MIVV and maybe without baffles.

I hadn't heard of that brand before. They look pretty nice.
I wonder if we can get them in North America?

Here's a link to the MIIV Sport exhaust which is supposed to fit a 1200 R.
It's in a building so the sound reverberates a little differently but it kinda sounds the same. This is the only dealer in U.S.A. it seems, http://www.pjsparts.com/
Here's the sound site,
