Does anyone know where I can find a Ztechnik repack kit for the Ti exhaust (Z4040), model number Z4040-001? If not, any recommendations on packing material and also on the correct rivet size? Any information would be appriciated.

Good timing. Looking into this for my bike's repack.

You can buy generic dirtbike repack kits as one option.

Bunch of googling said the SilcoSoft was best you can buy... but finding small quantity is proving difficult.

As for rivets, I bought a couple of different sizes along with a new rivet gun. Seems that stainless rivets are required as elevated can temps threaten aluminum rivets.

Will let you know what I find for the packing material.

Today ordered a bunch of the SilcoSoft muffler packing. Guessing I will have lifetime supply for the titanium can. Strictly DIY effort, bought the rivets earlier. Will document this as my first muffler repack effort.

For reference, purchased 30 sq ft for $120, unknown how much requied per repack for the ZTechnik. Guessing 6-8 sq ft will do it. Ignorance is bliss.

I should have lots of extra stuffing if you haven't already purchased.

For my muffler, my goal is a cure for its exhaust note flatulence. Quieter would be good. Cannot find a lighter system though than the ZTechnik titanium.

I do not know if my ZTechnik titanium has gotten louder or not, but quieter would be nice. I have not purchased anything yet, as I will not get to this project until about mid June. Of course I'll reimburse you if I end up using some of your packing.

Amen. Despite what others claim, the boxer motor just doesn't sound good in "loud pipes" mode.

Was happy with the net weight savings swapping OE system for titanium ZTechnik, though. The exhaust change along with ABS module removal dropped 30+lb, a small percentage from porky 500+lb R1150R, but surprisingly effective in changing bike dynamics (flickability).

jas- looks like you've got the official ZTechnik kit now... would love to know the rivet size(s) used... does it come with any steel wool or equivalent for core wrap? If you take pics during your repack, perhaps you can change this message thread's title for others' reference. I'll post pics here too if you don't mind.

As for my ZTechnik repack adventure - received the muffler stuffing. Lots of it. Picked up some blind rivets too, but have a feeling that they're a bit short for the end cap application.





Really hoping this BGF Techmat quiets & smooths the titanium can. Would be thrilled to hear a true "glass pack" exhaust tone like old school Cherry Bombs, but might be disappointed.

I’m going to have to apologize right off the bat; the kit was waiting when I got home so I walked straight to the garage and went to work.

The kit comes only with the baffle material/insulation two straps and 12 rivets. The material is wrapped around a cardboard tube with plastic wrap holding it in place.


Once you take the end cap off, you center the tube over the internal pipe and as you are pushing it down, remove the plastic wrap. Once the insulation is all the way in, simply pullout the tube and you’re done. I completely took the pipe apart, removing the bottom cap first which has the internal tube attached. Cleaned up the carbon build-up from the tube (made of heavy screen material), added exhaust sealant to the cap and main body, replaced the strap and rivets and then took off the upper cap replaced the baffle and was done.

The rivets have a stainless body and aluminum post. I would say the diameter (hole size) is 3/16" according to my drill index, the rivet body is 3/8" long and the rivet cap is also right around 3/8".
