Replacement of Brake Pads R1200R 2007

Looking for a little direction to determine if I need to replace my brake pads. The area dealer replaced the rear set during the 24K. How do I tell if I need to replace the pads? Is there some type of wear indicator? Can someone point me in the direction to find a resource how to change them myself. I've have just started doing my own service.

Thanks

The pads have a groove in their surface. When the pads are worn to the point where you no longer see the groove it's time to change them.

Youre lucky. I had to have my rear brake pads replaced at 13K during my 12K service. The service manager at my local dealer told me I must be braking wrong to wear it out so fast. Whatever.

No doubt that the groove in the surface is accurate, but I don't find it very handy, since the flat surface of the pad needs to be visualized.

Using a flashlight, I look at the edges of the pads. If they're 1 mm (or less) in thickness, it's time for new ones. Quick, and easy enough to do often. I do it every time I top off my tires.
