had a camping weekend with my dad that weekend...dang. gotta break the news.

Wow. For the first time a Bash is close enough for an old guy that hates 2 wheel highway slab marathons to ride there. Only 3Hr50Min and 180 miles (290km) away. Usually it's a 12+ hour superslab with the bike in my truck. This time it's really great twisty Georgia mountain range roads and a few single lane state highways. That's a tank of gas on the bike. Cool. I am there!

STDocLizard1, Lets make a plan. You know the drill . . . Thursday ---> Sunday. We'll talk.

Boxer, We can meet part way and ride up together, if you can get the time off work. If you won't be camping as usual, maybe we can do a 3-way with STDoc. We'll talk.

A Brief Inaccurate History of the Bash

2001-2002 Doug begat the Board for those discerning enough to choose the BMW R1150R Roadster in late 2001 and early 2002. And the guys were good. And the bikes were good. And the rides were good.
2003 But some cried out, "Can we ride together?" and "Let's Meet!" So the idea generated talk. And talk generated concepts. And concepts generated plans. But there was no meet.
2004 Then, one amongst the many declared: "I will plan a meeting at the holy place - Deal's Gap. If you shall be considered a true R1150R Roadster rider, you shall be there." And so it happened that the meet was declared the Beakster Bash and those in attendance were deemed worthy of the title "Beaksters". And they met, they rode, they ate good barbecue, and they rode some more. And when it was finished they declared, "We should do this again." And so it happened.
2005 Another of the now worthy Beaksters conceived the Barstow Bash and the left-siders declared, "But what about us?" And yet another esteemed Beakster planned the Great Western Torrey Bash to be held at the same dates. And many Beaksters were born at these events.
2006 A most esteemed Beakster decided that remote locations with good roads were not sufficient. So he determined to hold a City Bash at a real Hotel (with cell service). And they deemed to meet in Marietta that year. But swinger lifestyles and unanticipated snowfalls thwarted the enjoyment of some. So a return to remoteness ensued.
2007 The crew returned to West (by God) Virginia in the heart of the deep eastern mountains for the Marlinton Bash. And it snowed there too. And some had a ride in Arkansas, but that is another story best told by those who know.
2008 Still some Beaksters were not pleased. "We travel long journeys in weird weather and are tired from our exertions on arrival. Can we not declare a northern Bash?", they cried. And it happened that in the 5th year, the assembled Beaksters were in Central Pennsylvania for a Bash. And there was rain. And there were guns. And good pie.
2009 Yet again and still, the faithful declared, "We shall meet upon the headwaters, and we shall meet where the rivers are deep and the roads are wiry." And they met at New River Gorge. And it was good.
2010 So in the first year of the second decade (by some reckoning) and in the 5th month, upon the weekend of the third Friday, after the revels of the Mother's Day before, and in deepest homage to those who have done this, we shall convene the 7th of the Beakster Bash gatherings in the town of Harriman, in the State of Tennessee, along the banks of the Emory River, in the shadows of the Cumberland Mountains, and within spitting distance of the great road west - I-40 (Exit 347). Best Western Motel - no group rates. Bring your own stuff. Be there or be forever declared unworthy and deemed unfit to ride the Roadster with the Beak. (R1200R members are truly welcomed as are any rider on any bike, including Jim and Marty).

Seeing that I've been officially invited to Bash VII ....... My reservations are made.

950 miles for me, but it's tradition for me to say I'm going to try to make it this year and then not show up. So in keeping with that tradition...........
