25 month failure on 24 month warranty

Ater 25 mohth my battery is dead and it had a 24 month warranty.

While the battery is of course the OEM Exide/BMW the warranty lays with BMW according to the dealer. I asked if BMW would give a little and extend me a month on this he said that he did not think BMW would cover this under warranty at all and even if it was 24 months and two days I'd be out of luck. ( I even have had the right/recommended charger for this battery too)

I am wondering if it would help if I called over to BMW corporate in NJ and pleaded my case especially given the seemingly high rate of failure for these batteries? Has anyone ever done this? I'd even be willing to pay "something" for a new battery but not the $183. for a new BMW branded battery. Should the warranty avenue fail I will certainly not go that route at all.

Thanks

I will be honest with you and say that were my battery to fail again (3rd battery in the bike now) I would not accept another BMW battery for free. The cost of a new and hopefully better battery is worth the peace of mind that another catastrophic failure is less likely.

I hear you..I am thinking that this being almost 2010 that Exide would have fixed whatever was wrong with these batteries as it seems that most issues were with 06/07 and some 08 R1200Rs.

Here's one that will slip right in and it's only $56.00 delivered. www.staabbattery.com ( yacht14-bs-y ). It fits the R12R perfect. :D

It will slip in OK - but be hard to hook it up - the poles are reversed..

Couldn't you just rotate it 180 degrees? (I hate it when the electrons flow the wrong way!)

Just went and looked..

Nevermind.. I didn't look at it before a brain-fart took over and made me spout nonsense. The poles are at the rear of the battery (toward the front of the bike), with + on the right and - on the left - the battery should fit just fine. Probably.

I installed this battery today and it fit perfect-like it was made for the R12R. It's a glass matt battery. You dump the juice in, then seal it up for life. The poles are in the right position and it seems to crank the engine over fine. For 43 bucks plus 13 shipping, it seems like a decent deal.
