The ABS came on for the first time 'for real'

One of my strategies for staying safe is avoiding high density traffic but I thought I'd be safe today (Labor Day) at 9:00AM visiting the commercial strip in Hot Springs and checking out the new car lots. A black sedan made a left turn across my bow and I had to brake hard enough the ABS came on for the rear wheel. It never was a true panic stop - not because I'm very skillful, but just lucky in the sense I had a little time to react. She saw me at the last second and actually stopped in the middle of making the turn (in my travel lane).

Sometimes I wish our bikes had air bags like the Gold Wing. If the timing would have been about 1 second different I likely would have hit the car. In that case all the ABS in the world wouldn't have done me a lot of good (maybe a little because I'd have hit her going slower).

As they used to say on Hill Street Blues, "be careful out there".

Actually I would prefer a TOW missile tube to blast idiots that pull out and then stop cold in front of you. Oh...the satisfaction that would be...

Safe travels.

Or a death ray. They just disappear and there's one less idiot on the road.
