Australian R1200R Riders - Meet & Ride in your town

Maybe this will work. There are quite a few of us out there. It would be great if we could touch base a get together to ride together occasionally at random.

I'll get the ball rolling as the few R1200R riders I have met all seem to be good guys (except for one very sweet gal who was twice as nice).

I am in Sydney; north side ride an '09 R, in my 50's and have a mobile phone - 0409939077.

Anyone up for a ride this weekend? Could be a hoot. (Not restricted to R1200R riders if you have friends who want to join up).

Would be good if we can also identify ourselves all over the place so travellers could make contact with like minded and find friendlies.

The BMW Touring Club of NSW (BMWTCNSW) is having "Brekky @ Brookyn" on Sunday. I am hosting the ride, but it's open to anyone who might like to come along. The last turn-out saw about twelve of us for breakfast, some rode to Wollombi afterwards, others just hung around for more coffee and chit-chat and then wandered back home. It'd be great to meet some fellow R1200R riders, as there's only a couple of us that I'm aware of in the club. Details are:

"Meet at 9.30am at Leah's Alfresco, Hawkesbury River Marina, Dangar Road, Brooklyn. The cafe is on the wharf, open-air and under cover. Come and enjoy good coffee, a hearty breakfast, and meaningless biker chat. Possibility of a ride afterwards for anyone interested. We'll cancel if it's raining."

If you're interested, PM or call me (0417 290 663) and we could possibly meet for the ride to Brooklyn.

This ride aside, I would certainly be keen to catch up with anyone in Sydney, so let's see if we can't get something going.

Well,you have one in Adelaide that's for sure. A little difficult to travel 1200 km to Sydney but if anyone is staying in Adelaide I would keen to show them the sights in The Adelaide Hills etc. . Sadly in 50's as well, but have enormous supply of meaningless bike chatter stored

Well I too would really like to come down to Sydney to go for a spin with fellow R1200R owners, however like Vodka, Im a little too far away, being up in Brisbane. I am planning on heading down to Melbourne in October to meet some other mates down there and on the way back, a few of us may be stopping in Sydney for a night or three.

Ill know within the next few weeks so if we do go through Sydney, Ill get in touch.

Bodes, thanks also for your reply to my Hepco ad Becker post. I saw that you accidentally started a new one!! Bit of a laugh, but thanks for the response anyway. I think I might put some of the Hepco and Becker bars on my bike, just for a bit of added insurance as I intend on doing some longer rides over the coming months/years.

I'm in inner-west Sydney, close to the city / bridges and so an easy run to anywhere ... and happy to make a "meet" within 500km. I'm the the ACT BMWMCC (coz of history) rather than the NSW BMW Touring Club.

... I'm just back from a quick blast to the Bunya Mountains via the newly sealed Bylong Valley Way (under some amazing sandstone and pagoda rock formations) to Rystone, the newly sealed run through Mt Kaputar NP from Narrabri to Bingara (and then up over Copeton Dam) and the newly sealed goat track from Kilarney Qld past Queen Mary Falls and over (and dooooowwwwwwnnn) the main range to Rathdowney Qld. If they seal it, I'll ride it (well, OK, a tiny bit of the Bunya route was easy gravel). I think i took enough pics to psot a ride report.

If it's a Sydney run, and we're all feeing adventurous, how about connecting the now-sealed roads along the Divide? Meet Windsor (early), ride the Putty Road to Deman, Bylong Way through to Rylstone and Kandos, Sofala road to Bathurst, then Oberon and the Abercrombie road through Black Springs and Taralga to Goulburn and then toodle the Hume dullway to home ... one helluva day or two great days if we add home via Bundanoon and Macquarie Pass(overnight at a pub in Oberon) ... the "realistic" day run is to take either the northern or southern section and run home over Bells Line of Road ..

On the Sunshine Coast here - yeah started off about 10c this morning and got to about 24c during the day ,only a month of this winter weather to go!! I'm often up for a weekend ride around the place ,if i'm not jumping out of aeroplanes. Must go and get the firewood in!!

Hey Bill, there are at least 3 of us in the inner west now (Geoff is the third). While your fabulous itinerary for a mega ride is a good plan for the future, is there a chance you will join the mini ride to Brooklyn and further this Sunday? I will be leaving Annandale about 8am and hooking up with Geoff at Mobil Servo Ryde at 8.30am.

Perhaps a Brooklyn Breakfast is the way to go and we can plan a few rides. I've done Bill's ride in various incantations and they are all good destinations with fabulous roads.

Indeed the 'mid west' is the prime of the NSW rides apart from the Snowies, Oxley, Waterfall, Summerland ... all right it's great as well.

I might be sus in the near future because of the dreaded 12 point barrier but I can think of nothing better than being in one's own zone and sharing a yarn or a jar when you get somewhere. It would be great if a bunch of naked R1200R riders (no sex please) could touch base and share the thrill of what we ride.

Most bikers are, by definition, nuts but, as yet, I have only found good people with a need for thrills & sense of humour on two wheels.

I'll be at Leah's Brooklyn around 9-9.30 on Sunday (see MrChicken above) and ready to put in a few K's on the day.

Hey Bodes,

I am also a North Side R12R owner - Northern Beaches to be precise. Spend most weekends on the bike doing a half day ride north or south.
I have the advantage over some in that my wife is an F800ST rider and she is generally the one that insists on riding any chance we get.
Love the new surface on the Old Pacific Highway and last weekend we enjoyed a run down the Old Princes Highway - Bulli Pass - Seacliff Bridge and back to the Northern Beaches.

Like you, we have always found other riders (not just BMW riders) of like mind and fun to be with. We're not into fast riding but love the twisty bits and the roads less travelled by the cars.

Can't catch up this weekend due to commitments for the City2Surf but would have loved to meet the group going to Brooklyn for breakast on Sunday. Perhaps next time.

Let's keep the contact going and see if we can get some rides going. Mywife has been discussing exactly the same idea with some people on the F800 Forum. Perhaps we can establish a hybrid R12R / F800 Riders group.

I'd love to do Brooklyn but I'll be on my human powered two wheels with Miss Happiness (aka Miss Bossy) on behind. That's the only bike she's legally permitted on until she's a few years older! So my Sunday ride will be Anzac bridge - fish markets - Glebe Point via every slippery dip and swing set, then maybe Iron Cove (her new favourite playground is there ) ... I'll have to make my own engine noises.

... like you guys, I know and love the mid-west's open sweepers ... everywhere from Oberon - Cowra - Parkes - Wellington - Gulgong and into the mountains. I'd be thinking of a Spring weekender, once the overnight temps get above zero and early starts from mid-west towns are a bit easier (or better yet, a quick overnight camp without a harsh frost). We had -4C in Rylstone and -7C in Tenterfield on last week's run, with a bit of black ice to match!(Just for you canucks, I've camped in Australia on snow at -23C .. but that was xc skiing ,not motorcycling).

I'm another one from the inner-west. For me, Sunday mornings are usually dedicated to cycling (pedal variety), depending on a couple of other commitments I'll see if I can make an exception this weekend and get to Brooklyn.

Maybe if 'The Sydney chapter' PM's Bodes with an email address so we can kick around a few possible rides around Sydney without upsetting the Northern Hemisphere guys too much.

I have been an avid pedal cyclist for 20+ years while trying to be fit and superhuman.

Now that I am in touch with my inner self over the last few years I also have a hankering for powerful motors to propel me into adrenaline bliss - hence the ride.

I don't think these emotions / sentiments are far apart. Indeed they are complimentary.

When we look for personal goals we ride. When we lok for personal pleasure we ride. Sometimes there is an engine involved and that is the difference.

I ride a pedal and need to turn the cranks over frequently just like some of you. Akuna Bay, Bobbin Head, Waterfal, Alpine classic, etc. Seems we are on the same or at least not different pages. "Four wheels move the body, two wheels the soul" - anon.

When I'm on the motor I just want to ride with a few people who enjoy their machines, want to laugh, chat, share and care about stuff which we all need to care about. No agendas.

Lance Armstrong (like or hate him don't matter) said something like "some days I have good days the rest are great" has the right attitude in my book!

It's the here & now. Those we leave behind will remember our attitude not much more - we will be functus.
