OK, How Fast WILL It Go?

I am curious. When I was young and stupid, I always sooner or later, found out how fast my "ride" would go. Now that I am no longer young, I would like to ask someone who knows from whatever source, (legal and sanctioned, of course) how fast will this R1200R go?
It would save me a trip to the nearby Bonneville Salt Flats. Thanks.
FYI: top speed of the following I have owned.
Kawasaki MK III 500 (1970): 116 mph
CB 450 (1971): 106 mph
Honda 50 Hobbit (1978): 26 mph (governed)

140mph (give or take one or two) is what my speedo was registering. Ran out of revs and started to get scared, so I backed off. From what I've read, that is right at it's top end.

Larry,
Having lived in Huntsville, UT for 25 hears you should try the Salt Flats. Better yet, there are some terrific roads down south between Moab and heading towards Capital Reef, just off Highway 70 where you get a slightly downhill run with a complete vista straight ahead and no trees or obstructions on either side so you have a really clear view for quite awhile. I'm not suggesting you break the law but it is an interesting location with little or no traffic. I did 127 mph on my 06 1200 RT touring bike a couple years ago on that stretch and I'd love to get back West to try my 1200 R. Could be fun.

Larry,
Motorcycle Consumer News printed a model evaluation in the February,2007 issue.
Measured top speed was 137.9 mph.1/4 mile in 11.35 @ 118.33 mph.
0-60 in 3.51 seconds and 0-100 in 8.17 seconds.
More important for many of us 60-0 mph in 119.0 feet.
Let us know your results on the salt flats!
Barry

Perhaps it should be asked , how fast can it stop.

..Was that 60mph-0 with ABS??

I've had mine up to about 120 until I chickened out. There seemed to be a bit more in her.

Speedo said 204kph (127mph), GPS recorded at 197kph (122). There was still juice left.

Actually, at the time I had no windscreen. I basically sprawled out over the tank and had my head right behind the gauge cluster. In hindsight, it was fairly wreckless; I have yet to do it again.

No more than 1-2 over the posted limit
Appx 120 was as fast as I've gone. I have no wind screen and have to lay down near the tank as the wind wants to wrestle with you pretty much at anything over a 100. The mountain roads near me are more slower speed rides, but there are always a few places to let her stretch her legs for a bit.
Safe travels!

Top speed don't know on my new R12R but, on my last one ('07), I hit over 210kph on the straight at Phillip Island before I ran out of straight with the sportscreen and otherwise stock standard.
The speedo was a bit hard to read more accurate;y because of vibrations (and the fast approaching right hander).
What a blast. Corners are still better !!!!!

The 2 times I've hit 120 mph the magnetic tank bag has lifted off and then things got a little weird. I may never find out how fast it goes...

- Not necessarily, Mark. You may not be young-
I think that several answers alluded to what I was saying: words like "reckless" and "scared" are pretty appropriate -
I remember thinking, at 116 mph 39 years ago: "The margin error is gone. ANYTHING: A thrown chain, a jackrabbit (This was West Texas) and I am in deep trouble." That speed is no regime for trial and error: I remember an oscillation at 116 mph which I dampened out by pushing forward on both grips very hard. It was dicey. The BMW users manual even warns about high speed rapid tire deflation due to a centrifugal force valve opening! Surprise!
Nonetheless, we all seem to try it once. (as some replies said) I merely wanted someone else to try it for me this time. I am now old(er). You don't get that way by pushing the envelope for "stupid" really hard.
I love this bike!

If you used the engine protrusions as a spar ,could you connect a wing to each side, reverse shaft to the front and voila!!!!. Could you get done for speeding then??

Crossed the Nullabor Plain on Saturday (middle of nowhere in Australia) and thought I would see how fast my r1200r would go - showed 225ks on speedo with still a little to go before I chickened out - front wheel started to feel a little vague - had panniers on so without them I guess it would have seen 230+ easily.
