I'm Not Happy

I have finally had it with my dealership. In an earlier post I mentioned that I had taken my bike into the dealership to look at a possible slipping clutch. One thing they found was that the clutch reservoir cap gasket was shot, which they replaced under warranty. When in the shop, they dropped my bike and had to replace the left valve cover. When I picked the bike up I noticed that the valve cover seal was leaking.
Last night I took the bike out, got halfway into a left sweeping turn and my rear tire began to slip. I quickly put my bike upright and got home to find that the valve seal in the sparkplug hole was gushing oil like a stuck pig. After reorienting the seal, clean my bike and scrubbing oil out of my driveway, I noticed that the clutch reservoir cap is leaking again.

I’m taking the bike back in today to have them replace the seals. I will never buy a new bike from this place again. My next BMW (if I’m still in the area) will be used so that I do not have to worry about taking my bike in to the service shop for warranty work.

When you figure in the time I have taken off of work, along with the potential for an accident...................................

Sorry to hear about those problems...

Would you mind identifying the shop? I travel through Idaho now and then, and would appreciate knowing where NOT to go!

Hope you don't have further hassles getting them to step up to the plate!

The shop is Big Twin in Boise. There happens to be a large group of folks that love the shop. Then there is the growing number of us that would rather travel up to six hour to visit any other shop should the need arise. A friend of a friend rides a Ducati, and regularly travel to Central Oregon to have his bike worked on rather than deal with the local place. The shop owner and a couple other guys are good, but the rest treat you like an idiot, ignore you and perform sub-par work at a snails pace.

We are lucky however, in the since that an independent BMW mechanic moved up here from California and set up shop. The guy is friendly, reasonable, and always takes the time to cuss and discuss.

Thanks for the heads up...I didn't know where Eagle is located so I just got lazy and asked the question...

I've been into Beaudry Motorsports in Post Falls a couple of times and was curious if that's who you might be talking about...

There's one highly recommended independant shop (Vallantine's) in Seattle area, but his prices are just about the same as the dealers here.

But so far I've had good luck with South Sound BMW in FIfe (near Tacoma), and with Sierra BMW in Reno/Sparks as well.

You've proven the Mechanic is worthless - take the bike elsewhere.

The only time I have taken my bike to the shop is for warranty work. In two months the warranty will expire and I'll be free from that ball and chain. Fortunetly, these bike are owner friendy and with a little time and knowledge, can be easily worked on in the comfort of your own shop/garage/driveway.

Exactly. All the more reason to keep these things forever (in spite of known flaws), and continue our support group here in the spirit of long-term airhead owners.
